No.113 of 2026: Lough Erne Pump-Out Facilities

Issued: 13 October 2026

Waterways Ireland advises masters of vessels that:

• Carrybridge pump-out facility is expected to be operational from 14 October 2026.
• Knockninny pump-out facility is expected to return to service by 26 October 2026.

Both facilities will remain operational over the winter period.

Waterways Ireland thanks its customers for their cooperation.

Steamboat, Lough Erne.

The boat is called "Belturbet", and the location is Fermanagh.

"When it became clear that [a proposed steamboat passenger service] could not compete with the railway, [John Grey Vesey] Porter switched to tourism. In 1873, he opened a hotel and pier at Knockninny, a renowned beauty spot on the upper lake just north of Derrylin. He redeployed the Knockninny and, from 1880, the Belturbet to ferry passengers from Enniskillen and for excursions on the Upper Lough. These services ceased with his death in 1903 and both vessels were scrapped during the first world war."

We’re incredibly proud that Enniskillen is forever linked with one of the world’s greatest literary voices – Oscar Wilde.

This October, that connection will be celebrated with the first WildeDay, a free community event bringing Oscar’s words, wit and spirit back to the streets of his hometown.

📅 Friday 16 October 2026 – Launch Event
📅 Saturday 17 October 2026 – WildeDay across Enniskillen

Expect Victorian costume, live music, drama, dance, readings and performances popping up in businesses and public spaces throughout the town.

WildeDay is about more than literature. It’s about celebrating Enniskillen, Fermanagh and the creativity and culture that continue to thrive here today. We’re delighted to see the local arts community, businesses and residents coming together to make this special event happen.

From 10am–4pm on Saturday, Enniskillen will become a stage for stories, performances and moments of fun and discovery for all ages.
