For the latest instalment of our Tyre Geek Series, we’re taking a closer look at all-season tyres — and in particular, one of our favourites, the Maxxis Premitra All Season AP3.

We all hate to admit it… but summer is slowly slipping away! ☀️➡️🌧️

And judging by the weather lately, now is a very good time to start thinking about what’s actually keeping your car connected to the road.

This week’s Tyre Geek features the Maxxis Premitra All Season AP3 — a tyre designed to give drivers dependable performance through changing conditions without the hassle of swapping between dedicated summer and winter tyres.

🌧️ WHY ALL SEASON?

As we move towards autumn, we get more rain, colder mornings, standing water and eventually the possibility of frost, ice and snow.

A quality all-season tyre is designed as a compromise between summer and winter performance — giving you one tyre that can cope with the varied conditions we see throughout the year.

🔬 THE TYRE GEEK BIT…

Take a closer look at the AP3 tread in the picture.

That aggressive directional V-shaped pattern isn’t just for looks. The wide grooves are designed to move water away from the tyre’s contact area, while the large number of smaller cuts — known as sipes — provide additional biting edges for grip in colder and wintry conditions.

❄️ The AP3 also carries the 3PMSF (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) marking. That’s important: it means the tyre has met a defined performance standard for use in severe snow conditions — it’s more than simply an “M+S” marking.

And look at the EU label on this particular 225/50R17 98W:
