Just because your tyres have good tread doesn't mean they're in good condition! 👀

Cuts, cracks and bulges can all be signs of tyre damage, and ignoring them could put your safety at risk.

As part of Tyre Safety Month, Alex is showing us what to look out for when checking the condition of your tyres.

✅ Look for cuts or cracks in the rubber
✅ Check the sidewalls for bulges or unusual damage
✅ Keep an eye out for anything embedded in the tyre
✅ Check your tyres regularly, especially before long journeys

T is for Tread.

Your tyres are the only part of your car in contact with the road, so tread depth matters.

For most cars, the legal minimum is 1.6mm across the central three quarters of the tyre and around the entire circumference.

Low tread can reduce grip, particularly in wet conditions, and waiting until your tyres are illegal is leaving it too late.

This 20p could save your life. 🪙

It takes seconds to check your tyres, but most of us don’t think about them until something goes wrong.

For Tyre Safety Month, we’re backing the ACT Before You React message:

A – Air
Check your tyre pressures.

C – Condition
Look for cuts, cracks, bulges and uneven wear.

T – Tread
Place a 20p coin into the main tread grooves. If you can still see the outer band, your tread could be getting low and it’s time to get it properly checked.

The UK legal minimum for car tyres is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre, around the full circumference.
