Well, the summer has calmed down a bit. 2022 has been a very busy year with waits for tests of over a month. The autumn has brought with it some pretty good weather too, but waiting times are down to a week or two now. We always think the next few months is a good time to train. Back in the summer doing CBT in 38-40 degrees is no fun, but in the cooler months you can always put warm kit on. We may find differing conditions now, that we don't get in summer, but they are a perfect opportunity to experience with someone who has seen it all and ridden in every condition possible, so that the first time you experience them is not on your own on your new bike. We do not ride in unsafe conditions, but in this country they will always vary. Any questions give us a call

Well the time has come for George to hang up his helmet and retire. He has been struggling with his knees for some time and is due to have them replaced very soon. I would like to thank George on behalf of Ridesure, not only for working for us for the past few years, but also for his time as a sensible , pragmatic examiner and the time I spent with him as an IAM and RosPA observer and a friend.

Today we are working with Yamaha UK with the new Tricity 300. This is a tricycle that can be ridden on a car licence with no helmet. We are working with Yamaha to recommend a training package with the bike and introduce their staff to it.

Just so you can see we are trying to get them moving

Dear Prime Minister.
I must admit I have never felt the need to write to a Prime Minister before but our increasing frustration with DVSA and its complete lack of meaningful communication means I feel that I have to involve you. As the owner of a substantial motorcycle training school with 14 instructors and 23 motorcycles we are obviously feeling the pinch after being closed for 7 months. This is not too much of an issue for us as we have received grants which have been a great help. We would not have survived without them and it is still touch and go.
What is an issue is being kept in the dark by DVSA AGAIN!! We have been the last industry to know anything of their plans as to when we will re-open. It is not just this time it has happened at each lockdown. We do not have a clue when it will be, because they do not tell us. During the first lockdown I wrote to the Chief Executive of DVSA three times, no reply. I wrote to Grant Schapps , no reply. DVSA resent a 3 month old circular that was out of date and now after the third lock down when many shops, industries all know when they will re-open, here we are completely uninformed again. To be Frank it is unacceptable. This has been a long lockdown with plenty of time for a protocol to be drawn up with various alternatives and scenarios so that coming out of it is as seamless as it can be. We should not be guessing at what is going to happen, it just isn’t fair.
From 29th March the rule of 6 returns and sports courts will open. Any training we have done has been based on this. All of our training during the pandemic has been out doors with 6 or under. Yet this time we don;t know if we can start then or not. So our students and instructors are outside the whole time they are with us. We are covid secure. They ride individual bikes with full safety equipment. So is there a reason that training cannot start from 29th March and if not why can’t we be told the reasons if they exist? We have thousands of pounds worth of tests in our diary that we cannot book and cannot send back due to this perpetual darkness that we are in. We also have hundreds of customers some of which will have to start all over again due to theory, cbt and Module one tests that will have expired.
I wonder if part of the issue is that driver and rider training is not mentioned in the road map ( ironic ) and this leads to doubt. On or about 12th April gyms reopen but again no information for us.
So please can I ask that you press forward with your roadmap but include this massive driver and rider training industry in those plans so we know as much as a gym owner or a school teacher.

Continuing national lockdown in England
The government has published its roadmap of 4 steps out of the current lockdown in England.
In its roadmap the Government set out that driving tests and theory tests in England will restart (as part of step 2) no earlier than 12 April 2021.
DVSA is working closely with the government and will provide more information as soon as we are able to do so on motorcycle, vocational and other tests, lessons and training.
Driver, rider and vocational tests booked up to 8 March
To give us the time we need to work with government and the driver and rider training industry to confirm restart plans, we’re rescheduling all driving, riding and vocational tests booked between 25 February and up to and including 8 March.
We'll email the candidates affected by this with a new date and time for their test. If it’s not suitable, they can change it at www.gov.uk/change-driving-test.
Motorcycle and vocational tests booked by trainers will be cancelled and refunded as usual.
If you booked a test for any of your pupils, you’ll receive the email to let you know it has been rescheduled. You’ll need to give your pupil the new details.
In the meantime, the mobile emergency worker service for driving tests will still be available. You can still teach any of your pupils with one of these tests booked.
We thank you for your patience as we finalise more detailed plans for the safe resumption of training and testing in England.
Theory Tests booked up to 8 March
We will also email anyone with a theory test booked between 25 February and up to and including 8 March and ask them to reschedule their test at www.gov.uk/change-theory-test.
If you booked your pupil’s theory test, you’ll need to rearrange it for them at www.gov.uk/book-pupil-theory-test.
In the meantime, the mobile emergency worker service for theory tests will still be available.
Driver and rider lessons and CBT
Driver and rider lessons, must not take place until the restrictions are lifted. This includes CBTs, training for ADI part 2 and 3 tests and standards checks.
We are working with government to understand when lessons and CBT can restart, we will provide more information as soon as we are able to.
Driver and rider lessons for your pupils with a confirmed mobile emergency worker test booking can continue.
Scotland and Wales
We’re working with the Scottish Government and Welsh Government, who are setting out similar plans to the UK government. We’ll keep you updated as these develop.
