Lovely motorway session completed today with recently passed Sean. He chose to do this in the latest SSSOM car, the Skoda Kamiq.

Now he is all set to drive himself up to university at the weekend.

Huge congratulations to Charlie, who passed his driving test today in Bletchley.

This was his 1st attempt at SSSOM, in a car that literally arrived, brand new on Monday.

And, he did it without making a single error/driving fault (minor), thus becoming the first 0 fault/clean sheet pupil to pass at SSSOM ever! This marking an historic moment, in 16.5 years of driving instructing!🥳🎊🎉🏆
(It's been very close on about 8 occasions, over the years).

Well done for all the hard work, determination and immensely helpful private practise with dad. This pass was definitely well deserved and Charlie has demonstrated the perfect attitude and skill to be one of the best drivers I think I have ever had the privilege to teach.

Good luck for the future, but hopefully we might see you again soon for some motorway driving experience...

Congratulations to Skylah, who passed her driving test in Northampton last Tuesday, whilst I was on holiday.

This was her 2nd attempt at SSSOM, with only 2 dfs (driving faults), but at a completely unknown test centre, we had no time to practise for, due to the short notice test cancellation she found and me being away. Skylah bravely chose to go ahead and take it in her own car, and succeeded!

Well done with all the hard work, determination, perseverance and private practise with parents. This pass was so well deserved.

It has been an absolute pleasure, I am so glad to be part of your journey to help you get your licence before univerity.

Good luck for the future, but hopefully we might see you again shortly for some motorway driving experience...

This was his 2nd attempt at SSSOM, with a credible 9 dfs (driving faults), despite the limited time we had to practise, in his own car!

Well done for all the hard work, determination, listening to advise/feedback and also private practise with dad.
This pass was definitely well deserved and now means he can drive over the other side of the World.

The Northamptonshire Safer Roads Alliance (NSRA) is delighted to announce the return of its hugely popular free CarKraft Driving Experience, giving young people the opportunity to gain valuable driving experience and develop skills that could help keep them safe on the road.

Now in its 25th year, CarKraft returns to the Porsche Experience Centre at Silverstone on Sunday, October 4, offering both young non-drivers and qualified drivers the chance to get behind the wheel and learn from experienced professionals in a safe, controlled environment.

Whether you're counting down the days until your first driving lesson, learning to drive, or already have a full licence, CarKraft provides a unique opportunity to build confidence, improve your skills, and gain experience that is difficult to find elsewhere.

Since launching in 2001, more than 30,000 young people have taken part in the award-winning programme, making it one of Northamptonshire's most successful road safety initiatives.

Young drivers remain disproportionately represented in road traffic collisions and CarKraft continues to give young people practical experience and knowledge that could make a real difference when they are driving on our roads.

Non-Drivers (Aged 15+)

Young people aged 15 and over can attend one of four sessions (8.25am, 10.45am, 1.25pm and 3.45pm).

Give young people a head start with our young non-driver experience. Perfect for those who aren't quite old enough for driving lessons, these invaluable sessions give teenagers the chance to learn and get a feel for driving for the first time.

Starting Off Workshop - a dynamic, interactive session led by a professional DVSA-qualified driving instructor/trainer, which looks at important safety aspects covering drink driving, mobile phones, and distractions.

Driving Lesson - within the internal road network of the Porsche test track, they will have their first driving lesson in a real environment with a professional DSA-qualified driving instructor in a car with dual controls.

Parents and guardians are also invited to attend a dedicated workshop to help them better understand the learning-to-drive journey and how they can support young drivers as they gain experience.

Qualified Drivers (Aged 17-30)

Qualified drivers can choose from sessions at 8.15am or 1.30pm and will have the opportunity to:
• Understand HGV blind spots and how to stay safe around larger vehicles
• Experience skid-car training in a controlled environment
• Improve hazard awareness and decision-making with advanced driving skills and techniques

Participants will also take part in an interactive workshop which tackles common myths and misunderstandings around speed, drink/drug driving, mobile phones, seat belts and in car safety, attitudes towards other road users and recent legislative changes.

Please DO NOT book your driving test before speaking to your driving instructor!!

Logging on the DVSA website at 545am on a Monday is the best way to secure a test, but try to log in other times during the week/day between 6am and 11pm, you might be lucky.

You have 10 working days to cancel it/change it (call that 2 weeks before) before you lose your fee.

You have only 2 swaps now. Previously we had upto 6!

You can only move your test to 3 other test locations:

Bedford - Can swap to Bletchley, Luton, Letchworth.

Bletchley - Can swap to Aylesbury, Leighton Buzzard, Luton.

You CANNOT move a Bletchley test to Bedford (which I think is utterly bonkers when you can move Bedford to Bletchley).

If you book your driving test in any other location, you run the risk of not being able to move it to another test centre.

I cover Bletchley and Bedford test centres ONLY, as there is no way we can get to other test areas enough to practise those areas and carry out my normal work timetable.

If you have booked Kettering Northampton, Letchworth, Aylesbury, Wellingborough or Luton, Stevenage, St Albans or Northampton, please CANCEL it and rebook.

You will NOT be able to move you test location and date with just 2 swaps available.

Just some helpful advice so you don't waste time trying to find a driving test.
