🚗 TPMS warning light on? Don't panic — here's what to do!

As the weather gets colder, we're getting more calls about tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning lights. The good news is that colder temperatures can cause tyre pressures to drop, and there are a few simple steps you can take.

❄️ LIGHT ON WHEN YOU START THE CAR ON A COLD MORNING?

Cold weather can reduce tyre pressure, triggering the warning light.

✔ Find somewhere safe to park and check all four tyres for signs of low pressure or damage.

✔ If your tyres look OK, drive cautiously and see whether the warning light clears — tyre pressure can increase as the tyres warm up. However, this isn't a substitute for checking and correcting the pressure.

✔ If the light stays on, use a tyre pressure gauge or the inflator in your boot to check and inflate your tyres to the recommended pressures. You'll usually find these on the driver's door shut (B-pillar).

🕳️ HIT A POTHOLE AND THE LIGHT COMES ON?

Don't ignore it. Pull over as soon as it's safe to do so and check your tyres for visible damage or signs of a puncture. Listen for any hissing that could indicate escaping air.

If a tyre looks damaged, is losing air or you suspect a puncture, don't continue driving on it. Arrange assistance if needed.

🔧 LIGHT STILL ON AFTER CHECKING YOUR TYRES?

If you've checked and corrected the pressures but the warning light remains on, it could indicate a TPMS sensor issue or another fault. Our Service Team can help investigate.

The key thing is not to panic, but never ignore a tyre pressure warning. A quick check can help keep you safe and your car running as it should.
