• Clean your windscreen, inside and out, removing any hazy film that may build up

• Keep your sunglasses handy and use the sun visors

• If you’re dazzled by the sun reduce your speed

• Get any glass scratches and chips sorted – they can intensify the sun's glare

• Replace your wiper blades if they’re worn, damaged or old

• Use a screen wash additive that’s made for the job – check the handbook if you’re not sure where to top it up

October is here... which means darker nights.

To help you stay safe when driving in the dark here's some tips on driving once the sun goes down:

• Check your lights - ensure they're all in full working order

• Don't stare at oncoming vehicles - the glare can temporarily impair your vision

• Keep windows clean for good visibility

• Get your eyes tested - if you do need glasses your optician may recommend an anti-reflection coating on your lenses to reduce glare

• Look out for pedestrians, cyclists and animals - reducing your speed a little and being aware of the possibility of unexpected appearances on the road will help you to manoeuvre around them safely
