We are based in Colwyn Bay, North Wales just next to the A*5 which is the main dual carriage way linking the M6 motorway and goes all the way through to the port of Holyhead in Anglesey. We are just an hours drive from both Manchester and Liverpool airports and approximately 45 minutes away from Holyhead Port and Cheshire County. We are also just 15 minutes from the Snowdonia National Park. We are ideally placed for exploring all Wales has to offer including the Llŷn Peninsula, Shell Island, Snowdonia, Pen y Fan, Brecon Beacons and The Gower Peninsula. Also a great base for setting out on the North Coast 500 in Scotland or travelling to and from Ireland by ferry.

Our Story

Brothers Peter & John James are no strangers to the world of caravaning and motorhoming. Living in rural Northamptonshire, the geographical centre and furthest point form the sea in the England, both brothers acquired many vehicles over the years to aid their weekend getaways, whether to go surfing, to a festival or just to enjoy the great outdoors with their friends and families. This alongside a couple of European tours in motorhomes.

The ability to get out of town became essential and the choice of vehicle became a competition between them. From the early days of a fast car, roof rack and canvas to the more middle-aged requirement of a roof overhead and a little luxury, three things have always been important – reasonable speed, comfort and always a little nod to some style – we all want to drive something different / be noticed don’t we? Pete’s acquisition of “Homer”, a Mercedes based Hymer A Class Motorhome 700 (It’s big like Pete!) in 2008 effectively ended the competition overnight. Finally a vehicle had been found that could not be beaten – Classic retro looks with a huge windscreen, based on the legendary Mercedes 310/410 mechanicals providing both speed and fuel efficiency. This combined with ultimate reliability and the most fantastic cabin layout & mod cons including a huge permanently available double bed – So good in fact that many people asked if they could rent it and bingo! a business idea was born.

In 2011 Pete & John formed Hire a Hymer. We have now split our fleet between the classic Mercedes Hymers and more modern motorhomes. We have for the most part continued with the Hymers - with a few exceptions! Our aim is to provide our Motorhome hire to likeminded people who seek to make something more out of their journey to wherever they are going. We provide second user vehicles that are scrupulously maintained but that offer real value to the customer which we combine with our personal and experienced service.
