Our Vice Chairman Richard was honoured to attend the Secretary of State’s Garden Party at Hillsborough Castle.
Richard and his partner Lee had a wonderful time enjoying the delightful food, and sharing conversations with so many people recognised for their public and volunteering service in NI
It was a further privilege for him to be personally presented by our Lord-Lieutenant of Co Londonderry to HRH the Princess Royal for Richard's voluntary roles within sea2it, Coleraine Harbour Commissioners and the UK governments Coleraine Future Town Fund.

She asked about Richards voluntary service with sea2it and He explained how sea2it are using the negative of marine plastic littering to achieve a positive community uplift through volunteering and training.
They also spoke about the 'Wetwheels Foundation, which she is the patron of and the continued project in basing an accessible Wetwheels boat on the River Bann once suitable onshore facilities can be put in place.
Richard extended an invite to both SoS Hilary Benn and Minister Gordon Lyons MLA to Coleraine Harbour to hear about potential options around to deliver a Wetwheels project for Northern Ireland.

Richard described it as a truly memorable occasion celebrating our voluntary community.

📢 ADVICE OVER BLUE-GREEN ALGAE

Council is urging the public to be cautious when visiting beaches and rivers in the Causeway Coast and Glens area, due to the potential presence of blue-green algae.

Blue-green algae has been travelling downstream from Lough Neagh throughout the summer, impacting facilities along the River Bann and coastal areas in the Borough. It is anticipated that more blooms will continue to arrive on our shores, subjected to weather and tidal conditions.

To help keep people safe from the effects of blue-green algae – which can be harmful to humans and potentially lethal to animals – Council is urging the public to follow the safety advice.

Like many a castle on the island of Ireland, Dunluce Castle has a turbulent back story. Warring clans fought for it, an army besieged it, and it was scavenged for parts. Pretty dramatic, eh?
