🔧 Ford Focus EcoBoost Wet Belt Engine – Spot the Difference! 🔧

Take a look at these two vacuum pumps side by side.

⬅️ Left: Damaged vacuum pump
➡️ Right: Good working vacuum pump

On Ford's EcoBoost wet belt engines, deteriorating belt material can contaminate the engine oil. Over time, this debris can block oilways and starve components of lubrication, causing damage to parts such as the vacuum pump.

A failing vacuum pump can lead to:
⚠️ Reduced brake servo assistance
⚠️ Increased brake pedal effort
⚠️ Expensive engine repairs if left unchecked

Regular servicing and timely wet belt replacement are essential to help prevent costly failures.

⚠️ Engine Failure Investigation ⚠️

This Peugeot 208 fitted with the PSA wet belt engine came into the workshop with a serious bottom-end knock. Despite having covered just 33,000 miles, on strip down we found a crankshaft bearing had failed, generating so much heat it welded itself to the conrod.

The root cause was wet timing belt deterioration. Belt debris contaminated the oil system, causing oil starvation and catastrophic bottom-end damage.

The crankshaft, piston and con rod have all been damaged, so we'll now be sourcing replacement parts to get this vehicle repaired and back on the road.

✅ We offer a FREE wet belt inspection on PSA engines, where we measure the belt thickness and check for signs of deterioration. This can help identify a failing belt before it causes costly engine damage like this.

🚗 BRAKE WEAR / NOISEY BRAKES ⚠️

These photos show unevenly worn brake pads and heavily worn brake discs found during an inspection.

The uneven pad wear was caused by a faulty brake caliper, which also required replacement. The worn discs and pads were replaced at the same time, getting the braking system back to proper working order. 🛠️

Brake inspections can help spot problems before they become more serious — and potentially more expensive.

🚐 TRANSIT CUSTOM IN FOR MOT & FULL SERVICE 🔧

Transit Custom in today unfortunately, it failed its MOT on 3 major defects:

❌ Nearside front inner driveshaft gaiter split
❌ Nearside front outer driveshaft gaiter split
❌ Nearside front DRL bulb inoperative

There were also a few minor advisories:
⚠️ Both front tyres low and worn on the inner edge
⚠️ Nearside front tyre has a nail

We’ll now get a quote together for the required repairs and, once approved by the customer, we’ll get everything sorted and have the van ready for work Monday morning! 👨‍🔧💪🏼

Engine Rebuild Complete!

This week we've completed a full rebuild on a 1.0L Ford EcoBoost engine after internal engine failure.
