👀 Something’s happening behind the scenes…

If you’ve been following us for a while, you might remember me teasing a few changes coming to the garage when I shared a photo of our old office being moved outside.

Well… things have been pretty busy behind the scenes since then! 👀

You may have noticed this van out and about… but we’re not giving too much away just yet. 🤫

There’s a lot more to come that we’ll be revealing over the coming weeks.

We’ve been working hard to make some big improvements, and we can’t wait to show you the finished results.

🚗 Diagnostic Success at Bakers MOT – Another Happy Customer! 🔧

We recently had a 2014 Volkswagen Golf in our workshop with two common but frustrating symptoms:
💧 Losing coolant
🌡️ No warm air from the cabin heaters

Our investigation started with a full visual inspection and a cooling system pressure test, but no external leaks could be found.

Looking closer, we noticed the coolant in the expansion (header) tank contained a fine sand-like residue. This is a well-known issue affecting a number of Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) vehicles from this era. In many cases, the silica material from the coolant expansion tank, or fine casting residue left in the cooling system, can contaminate the coolant and gradually block the narrow passages inside the heater matrix. The restricted coolant flow reduces cabin heating and can cause the cooling system to overheat, forcing coolant out of the expansion tank.

Following the manufacturer’s recommended repair procedure, we:
✅ Treated the cooling system with the genuine VAG neutraliser and cooling system cleaner.
✅ Thoroughly cleaned and flushed the entire cooling system.
✅ Replaced the heater matrix in line with manufacturer guidance.
✅ Refilled and carefully bled the cooling system.
✅ Carried out extensive road testing to confirm the fault had been resolved.

The result? ✔️ Full cabin heating restored, cooling system operating correctly, and another satisfied customer back on the road.

If your Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT or Škoda is suffering from:
🔹 No cabin heat
🔹 Unexplained coolant loss
🔹 Coolant being pushed out of the expansion tank
🔹 Brown or gritty-looking coolant

Don’t ignore the symptoms. Early diagnosis can help prevent further damage and more expensive repairs.

⚠️ Tyre Safety – Not Everything Is Visible at First Glance ⚠️

These three photos tell an important story…

📸 Photo 1: The outer sidewall looked perfectly normal.
📸 Photo 2: The tread still appeared to be in good condition.
📸 Photo 3: The inner sidewall revealed a large split and bulge – a serious defect that could have led to a dangerous tyre failure.

This customer was incredibly fortunate that we inspected the tyre today before it failed.

It’s a reminder that you can’t always judge a tyre by what you can see from the outside. Damage on the inside of a tyre often goes unnoticed without a proper inspection, which is why regular vehicle checks are so important.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of stepping away from the garage and heading down to Nottingham to visit Lindleys, an award-winning and highly respected business within our industry.

Taking time out of the day-to-day running of the garage is always valuable, as it gives us the opportunity to work on the business rather than just in it. The day was packed with networking, sharing ideas with fellow garage owners, and discussing ways we can continue to improve the service we offer our customers.

One of the most exciting parts of the day was planning something new that we’ll be introducing at Bakers MOT very soon… 👀
