Myth around Electric Vehicles
Whilst there is a huge up take in drivers choosing to swap from petrol cars to electric, some are s ll
hesitant to make the swap for many different reasons.
Top of the pile is distance with many believing long journeys would be a nightmare with a need to
charge up several mes, most EV now can reach 250 miles which is a fair distance, in a poll a high
percentage thought the maximum was around 160 miles. Added to that there are now over 45,000
public charging points and this number will only increase.
The ba ery charge when polled some thought it could take up to 12 hours which can be true if
charged at home, however at a petrol sta on with rapid chargers this can be as li le as 20 minutes.
There is also worry about having to replace the ba ery and the expense involved as well, that they
are slower than fossil fuel vehicles.
Other reasons included you can’t put them through a car wash, overcharging will cause damage to
you are not allowed to drive in the fast lane of the motorway.

Learners Drivers Now Allowed on Motorways
A change in the law now allows drivers who are still learning onto motorways.
The Transport Department has said “The Uk has some of the safest roads in the world and we
want to make them even safter”.
“Younger drivers are up to seven times more likely to be killed or seriously injured compared
with drivers over 25 and lack of experience is an important factor.”
“Allowing learners to drive on motorways in a supportive environment will help them
develop a practical understanding of how to use motorways safely before driving
independently.”
This a positive step forward in the past, whilst driving schools offered motorway lesson post
the driver passing the test the take up was unknown, although Jason Wakeford from the
charity Brake feels it should be taken further and motorway lessons should be mandatory, in a
bid to make it safer and ensure young drivers understand the rules of motorway driving.
Whilst learner drivers are now allowed onto motorways , it must only be with a licenced
instructor in a duel control vehicle.

First mass-produced car:
Mass production of the motor car took a few steps before we got to something close to what we have today.
Carl Benz’s follow-up to his first attempt at a car, called the Benz Velo, became the world’s first large-scale production car at the end of the 19th century. Meanwhile, in the US, the Curved Dash Oldsmobile from Ransome Eli Olds saw the initial dawn of the assembly line, or at least a basic concept of one.
In this era of automotive history, many will think of the Ford Model T – while not the first mass-produced car, it was with this model that Ford introduced a more comprehensive version of the production line. It was this efficient, fast-moving assembly line that allowed Ford to sell the Model T for no more than $851, with the first customer car being delivered in October 1908.
