Been a day two since giving a little update of the on goings behind the doors at ALM!

Back to the graft after a two and a bit week trip to Finland and Norway - Finland to help Donald in the Mk2 and a wee holiday, then onto Sweden and out for a play in the Angus Lawrie Motorsport Evo 9 😍! The best two weeks, trip, Rally ….. Incredible! A real good re-charge and a kick up the arse to get back, get grafting and save for the next adventure! 🙏

Doors have been Locked and likely well noted the phone hasn’t seen much attention but it’s been good - a while since a feeling of achievement and progress! 🙏

As things continue to change at ALM with no longer offering an ‘On event service’, things are slowly getting a bit more planned , thought about saying under control but that was just a silly thought 🤦‍♂️. Lots to say but two quick points is that with current jobs being between 200 and upto 600 hours its likely a case of a well planned ahead work load with a few current builds and future shells/builds in the pipe line, thank you to all these great customers. Secondly - although very different now commiting to stop going away on events finally was a decision I should have made before I did! Healthier and happier - and I know there is many out there in the self employed gig with similar dilemmas but your own health and happiness is the biggest importance ❤️.

Still learning, still improving - it’s flat out for the end of the year now and get some progressing done!

Angus Lawrie Motorsport Evo 9 Freshen Up 🥰.

Ahead of a big adventure for the Evo it’s had a fair going through over the last few months, it always gets a good going over in between events but every now and then a real good strip down, check over and tidy up is always worth while to keep it fresh and reliable. As always things went a little further than planned but all worth while.

A few points of appreciation are needed though and credit given….

Andrew Mercer at Momentum Motorsport for a cracking service, advice and support in supplying a new gearbox and electrics.

Giles Philips at GPM for the transmission check over and rebuilds along with required parts, DamperTek for the damper rebuilds.

Stevie at Colour Code for paintwork to keep her tidy! 😍

Dom at Stuck Graphics for sorting and supplying required Stickers after giving the vinyl a freshen up!

As always, hopefully the hard work pays off!

Some recent metal work, always good to put a wee post together and see that although it never feels enough some progress has been made!

Tough going as I’ve said before when you don’t see any progress being made but it all comes together eventually - then it’s onto the next job on the list 🤦‍♂️.

Was planning a wee ‘throwback’ around the time of the Jim Clark to a few years ago when I converted the C3 Rally 2 into Right hand drive, I have done some crazy shifts in my days but this was by far the least amount of sleep I had in a two week period with meal delivery’s to the workshop (thanks dad) and on the final night loading the car into the trailer at 3.30am, home to pack a bag and grab an hours sleep before hitting the road to drop the car for stickers (grab another few hours snoozing) before collecting the car again and going to scrutineering! A rewarding weekend that year with the car finishing both events over the weekend with no issues and a great result on the Sunday Reivers event.

Challenging but an extremely rewarding job and maybe one of my best achievements/examples of work? The car went onto win two rally’s (one of which is another story of sillyness) and bring success and enjoyment to John and Ross before it was sold on at the start of the year.

Throughout that time it was an absolute pleasure working with Race and Rally who always went above and beyond to ensure the car was always at its best and at the end of the phone with technical advice and support when ever it was needed! 🙏

A big thanks again to the Local support especially Colour Code and Ian for there part in making this happen, when they say it can’t be done it’s great fuel to power the night shifts to show them different! 💪

Thanks to John for trusting me with this and his other cars over the years and the opportunities of such jobs!

That time again… end of another week! Actually quite good coming on here and doing a wee post sometimes, hopefully by the time I’ve clicked on some photos to upload It makes me realise I’ve actually got through more work than I realise but unfortunatly it still always feels like it’s never enough, as I keep saying the work involved in these is crazzzyyy!

Thanks to the response on the previous post of locking the workshop door, it’s certainly been a better time in the workshop getting the head into the work and long may that continue 🤞- plenty to be kept busy with!

A new week starts tomorrow and it’s all go 💪!

And as always - thanks to my customers for the continued work, support and understanding and to all you nice folk for the odd nice comment and compliment of work, on a challenging day working yourself it can be a wee help at times 🤯. And finally to all you other self employed folk out there battling through another week of chaos - give yourself the credit you deserve! 💪

Over the last few weeks and months the amount of visitors, sales calls and phone calls have increased, the amount of time lost in a day is getting crazy! It’s nice to see people, get the craic but struggling to get through work and produce the required chargeable hours in a day to run the show without going back to 14 plus hour days in the workshop.

I know customers are concious of this when they do call which I appreciate but at the same time don’t want them feeling they can’t call, please don’t be offended if I don’t answer your call during the day, I’m trying to use lunch stop and evenings after work to do this when possible/not important. Drop me a WhatsApp message.

I am just a one man band still and you will not belive how quickly a day dissapears until you become self employed 🤯.

I will be locking the door to get the head down with some shell work in the coming weeks so message ahead if you are calling by for any reason there will be a high chance with extraction going and EarPods in pumping the big tunes out I will not hear you.

Hopefully the next post will be an update from a huge amount of progress that has been made! 🤞

Blink of an eye and another few weeks pass by, how we are in May already I do not know! 🤯

Often struggle to post things on Facebook, now the ALM presence is less at events it’s a bit more important to be doing this so not forgotten about! 🥺 After recent posts there has been some people that have made comment when they have seen me and said they love seeing what i have been busy with which is always nice and especially the unexpected ones - so thanks, means a lot! Because this is the norm to me it’s just another day but I guess for many they don’t see this kind of work but may have an interest in it. From a before and after photo it can look easy but honestly, the work and time in some of this stuff is crazy, working with thin sheet metal with things ‘pulling’ or being affected by heat involves a lot of thought and effort- like all things every day is a school day and I am always learning and have a lot to learn yet but with the changes in the line of work and direction of ALM over time I am looking to invest on more equipment to make a better and quicker job of things while I learn to improve the standards.

As many will have seen on my personal Facebook the Astra has had a fair amount of TLC which ended up being a bit last minute and things got well out of hand but this was great to have probably the last of the big weights off my shoulder after a huge effort to clear the decks and all the jobs and head aches that have piled up over the last few years. After a tough four months thankfully there is light at the end of the tunnel and don’t have that horrible feeling of being weighed down with deadlines and a crazy workload. There is still plenty to be busy with over the coming months and year, it’s very hard to give people a date in which I can take some jobs on, the bigger jobs need crazy hours into them before seeing progress and although some smaller,quicker turn around jobs would be handy at the moment it’s head down on what’s infront of me. 💪

Dug the Asset Alliance Group Evo and Sunbeam out - Both cars built by ALM and always a great bit of pride looking at these beauty’s! 😍

Credit to Colour Code for the paint job on the Astra which involved some big shifts and late nights to get this turned around quickly for me! Hero 🙏

Anyway, last rambling - just a shout out to any one man band’s, small business’s and the self employed battling away with rising costs and the roller coaster of business in these mad times, if your employed , get paid weekly and walk out the door at 5pm and don’t think about work till when you start the next day, you don’t realise just how good you have it!

End of another week at ALM and good to see/feel some progress. The bigger jobs take a lot of work in preparation and smaller parts to finally bring a section together - in the fabrication department all metal is always cleaned out, taken back to metal and treated/primed/painted before any welding so everything has a coat of protection to prevent any rust starting. It can be mentally hard going after a few days at it and not feel any progress at times then within a few hours it can all come together. A lot of work for the next job on this shell but allows a lot of the other required work to then be done.

Final jobs on Sierra before it heads off for paint (Finally)! Thankfully a very understanding customer - this shell has been with me for a while and both happy to see it getting closer to the final hurdle - this has been a challenging job with almost every part needing work to make it all fit and right but credit to the owner - done right! Been lovely to carry out a full dry build and the last of the fittings arriving this week meant I was able to finish all the brake and fuel lines - a lot of thought involved in getting all the right angles, threads and fittings 🤯. A dry build is a must when putting a car together to allow for all the correct fixings and holes to be done before paint meaning bolting it together is quicker, easier and the end product is of the best quality! 👌 A fair bit of modifying and tweaking but the noise box modified and fitted - Looking forward to seeing this once it’s finally built. 😍
