You've been driving the same route for three years.

Same depot. Same destination. Same time every single day.

You could do it with your eyes closed.

Which is basically what you're doing at this point.

Monday morning you're thinking about Friday evening. Friday evening you're thinking about Monday morning. The middle bit is just muscle memory and radio.

Your mates ask what you do for work.

You describe the route. Not the actual work. Just the route.

Here is what you're actually missing:

Every day is different.

You roll up to a breakdown and you don't know what you're walking into. Mechanical failure. Accident recovery. Something wedged under a bridge. A lorry that's jack-knifed on the hard shoulder.

You solve it. You recover it. You move on to the next one.

Different vehicle every time. Different location. Different problem.

No two days look the same.

We're hiring 7.5T and Class 2 HGV Recovery Drivers.

Carterton and Highworth bases covering Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and the Cotswolds.

You need:

C or C+E license. Driver CPC and digital tach card. No more than 6 penalty points. Local knowledge. Customer service skills. The ability to stay calm when things go sideways.

We offer:

Excellent rates depending on experience. Paid weekend standby on certain shifts. 28 days holiday. Pension. Company vehicle on shift. Overtime. Shifts you can actually discuss rather than pre-programmed.

Background check required.

If you've been doing the same route for three years and you're tired of knowing exactly what Friday looks like on a Monday morning, maybe it's time for different.

Download Festival is two days away.

Which means tonight, thousands of people are about to play the same dangerous game:

“How much can we fit in the car before physics gets involved?”

Tent.
Sleeping bag.
Cooler full of food.
Your mate’s bag.
More drinks than sense.
And three things nobody will use but everyone insists on bringing.

Your car has never been this full.

And now it is heading to a muddy field in Derbyshire.

Here is what that means.

Your suspension is working harder.
Your brakes can feel softer.
Your tyres can heat up faster under the extra load.
Your engine is doing more work than usual.

Then Friday night arrives.

You are parked in a festival field.
Signal is patchy.
Everyone is tired.
Nobody knows where the car keys are.
And suddenly the “it’ll be fine” plan looks a bit thin.

Quick checks before you go:

Tyre pressure. Check them cold before you load the car.
Oil level. A full car makes the engine work harder.
Coolant. Heat, traffic and extra weight are not a cute little trio.
Brakes. If they feel soft or strange, do not ignore it.
Lights. Because finding your car in a field is already enough of a sport.

Do not just hope it will be fine.

Make sure your car is fit for the journey before you leave.

And maybe use some of that tent space instead of turning your boot into a badly packed game of Tetris.

Heading to Download?

Enjoy it. Your car’s got this.

Probably.

Bank holiday Monday. Last day of the long weekend. You're heading home.

The car's done three days of beaches, BBQs, and back roads. Boot's full of sandy towels and half-eaten picnic supplies. Kids are tired. You just want to get back.

Then you hear it.

That noise that wasn't there on Friday.
Or the temperature gauge creeping higher than usual.
Or the warning light that's decided now is a good time to make an appearance.
Three days of driving in heatwave conditions does things to cars.

Especially cars that normally do ten-minute school runs and not much else.

Your coolant's been working overtime in traffic.
Your brakes have been tested on steep coastal roads.
Your tyres have been baking on hot tarmac for three days straight.
Most cars make it home fine.
Some don't.

If you're on the M4 or M5 heading back to the Cotswolds today and something feels different, pull over somewhere safe and check.

Better to arrive home late than not at all.
We're working today if you need us.

Bank holiday weekend. Heatwave. You're staying home.

Garden. Book. Cold drink. No motorway stress. Sounds perfect.

Your car's sitting on the drive for three days baking in 30-degree heat.

That's actually a problem.

Direct sunlight on a black car in this weather - the interior hits 50 degrees.

Dashboard cracks. Plastic trim fades. Steering wheel too hot to touch when you finally need to drive Monday evening.

If you're not using it this weekend, just move it.

Park it in shade if you can. Under a tree. Side of the house. Anywhere that's not full sun all day.

Can't get shade? Windscreen sun reflector costs a tenner. Keeps the interior 15 degrees cooler.

Battery sitting unused in extreme heat? Not ideal. If you're not driving at all, start the engine for 10 minutes mid-weekend. Let it idle. Keeps the battery charged.

Tyres sitting on hot tarmac for three days can develop flat spots. Not permanent but annoying. If you can, move the car forward a metre halfway through the weekend.

Finally, check your coolant level before Monday. Sitting unused doesn't matter.

First journey after three days of heat does.

Enjoy the garden. Just don't forget about the car on the drive.

Anyone else spending the weekend in the garden instead of sitting in bank holiday traffic?

Your car breaks down.
A random recovery truck appears within minutes offering to “help.”

That’s not good customer service.
That’s your warning sign.

Here’s the scam nobody talks about enough:

You’re stranded.
Stressed.
Possibly with kids in the car.
You’ve already called your breakdown provider.

Then suddenly some bloke pulls up like he’s the roadside guardian angel.

“Need a tow?”
“I can take you home now.”
“Cash preferred.”

And because you’re vulnerable and just want the nightmare over with… people say yes.

Big mistake.

The £150 quote quickly becomes:

“Extra for mileage”
“Extra for your vehicle”
“Extra because it’s late”
“Extra because we had to use specialist equipment”

Funny how the “specialist equipment” is always discovered halfway through the journey.

By that point your car’s already on their truck and you’re stuck negotiating prices from the passenger seat like it’s The Apprentice: Breakdown Edition.

This is exactly why legitimate recovery companies exist.

Real recovery operators:
✔ Agree prices upfront
✔ Don’t pressure vulnerable drivers
✔ Are insured and accountable
✔ Work with police forces and major insurers
✔ Don’t magically invent charges every 15 minutes

So if a random truck appears before your provider does, think twice before jumping in.

Because some people see a breakdown.
Others see a business opportunity.

And trust us - there’s a difference.

Save this post. Share it with someone who drives.

This catches people out every single week.

Monday: Slough to Birmingham.
Tuesday: Slough to Birmingham.
Wednesday: Slough to Birmingham.

At this point you could probably do it blindfolded.

Same depot.
Same motorway services.
Same traffic.
Same day on repeat.

Now imagine this instead:

Monday morning:
Commercial van broken down on the A40.

Monday afternoon:
Accident recovery near Witney.

Tuesday:
HGV stranded down a country lane nobody’s heard of.

Different vehicles.
Different locations.
Different problems to solve.

Some jobs are simple.
Some need you thinking on your feet.

No two days the same.

We cover Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and the Cotswolds responding to breakdowns and recovery call-outs for major insurers and police contracts.

You’ll need:

* C or C+E licence
* Driver CPC
* Digi card
* Good local knowledge

We’ll train you on the recovery side.

Excellent rates.
Paid standby on certain shifts.
28 days holiday.
Various shift patterns available.

20 years operating.
70-vehicle fleet.

If you’re bored of driving the same route every day, this is a very different road.
