Whilst out teaching today came across a scenario that regularly happens and I just want to address.

When we're turning right into a junction from a main road, we're teaching our students to look for the right gaps and to correctly identify a safe time to go. So when you stop and flash your lights to let us across you think you're helping us out. Which is lovely and Thankyou. What you don't see is my learner now panicking as they feel pressured to get across without stalling, the flapping that is ensuing inside the car because your trying to help and they don't know whether to go or not.

It's really hard as we know you're trying to make things easier for us, but please understand if you're going to flash us at least give us a chance to move. We're trying our best to get them across the road safely without panicking. If asked by the instructor to just carry on with your journey as you can see how stressed the student is becoming then please don't then give them hand gestures and scream at them.

Ultimately we're trying to teach them the correct rules of the road and if we're turning right off a main road and your turning left you've got the right of way. The discussion will be happening in the car of when to turn and what's the correct way to make the turn.

Please think twice if you're trying to help and it goes against the Highway Code we're just trying to teach them the right way!
