🔥 Making a Bonfire 🎆
With Bonfire Night approaching, the children have been exploring the theme of bonfires through a lovely creative activity! The ladies provided the children with a variety of different resources, including wooden blocks, sticks, planks, coloured fabrics, cardboard, tape, scissors and glue. The children were encouraged to explore the materials and think about how they could use them to create their very own bonfire!
We introduced the activity with lots of exciting questions, such as “What materials can we use to build our bonfire?”, “What colours can we see in a fire?” and “Can we use the loose parts to create a bonfire?” The children were encouraged to think about the different colours they might see in flames, such as red, orange and yellow, and how they could use the available resources to represent a fire.
The intent of this activity was to develop the children's creativity, imagination and understanding of Bonfire Night. We wanted to encourage them to explore different materials, experiment with construction and use their problem-solving skills to create their own bonfire designs. We also aimed to develop their fine motor skills through picking up, positioning, cutting and sticking the different resources.
The ladies implemented this activity by providing a variety of loose parts and creative resources for the children to investigate. We encouraged the children to explore the different materials, choose their own resources and think about how they could put them together to create a bonfire. We supported their learning by asking open-ended questions, talking about the colours of flames and encouraging the children to share their ideas and work together.
The impact of this activity was that the children had the opportunity to develop their creativity, communication and problem-solving skills. They explored different ways of using the materials, made their own choices and used their imaginations to create bonfire-inspired designs. The children also had opportunities to develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination while handling, cutting and sticking the resources. Through our conversations, we encouraged the children to develop their understanding of Bonfire Night and their experiences.
All in all, we've had a fabulous time getting creative and exploring Bonfire Night! We loved seeing the children's wonderful ideas.

Ducklings 🐥

Red and yellow and pink and green, purple and orange and blue… I can sing a rainbow, can you? 🌈🤍✨

Today in ducklings we have been exploring the sensory toys and looking at different colours. We used our fine motor skills to feel the different textures of the toys as well pick up the different blocks to build towers.🌈🤍✨

Intent🌈
The intent of this activity was to help the children understand the colours and develop their fine motor skills by tipping, stacking and shaking the different coloured resources that we had out for the children, by helping them learn different textures as well as new colours. The interest of this activity came from Child EK.🌈

Implementation🤍
The ladies got out all the different resources for the children, such as the coloured pebbles, the coloured plastic wands and the wooden rainbow. The children were able to explore at their own pace and use their fine motor skills to stack the wooden pebble, play peekaboo with the wands and look at the different colours they could see. LA said his friend’s top was ‘blue’ when asked. The children were also able to name yellow and red as colours too.🤍

Impact✨
The impact of this activity allowed the children to explore new colours they may not of seen before, feel new textures on their hands as well as explore with their friends. They were able to show their friends and the ladies how high they have stacked their towers and tell the ladies what colours they could see.✨

🌈Physical Development🌈
~ Using fine motor skills to build and stack using the pebbles and bring the wands to their faces.
🤍Communication and Language🤍
~Learn new words such as different colours, numbers and shapes.
✨Personal, Social and Emotional✨
~Working together as a team to build using the pebbles.
🌈Literacy🌈
~ Reading stories about the different colours and where we might find the colours in the outside world.
🤍Mathmatics🤍
~Talking about how high the towers are, and different eye numbers as we count.

AHOY MATEY 🏴‍☠️🪎

Today in Penguin’s we have been on a pirate adventure to find the hidden treasure, This led on from child CG and MA’s interest in the pirate Pete book! So we started of by having a look at the treasure map pirate Pete left behind for us before going over to our globe and having a look at all the different countries around us. The children went on to explore the pirate accessories trying them on and getting into character using their imagination throughout their play. We looked in the treasure chest where all of our treasure was talking about the treasure we had found from diamonds to coins to a pretty necklace too. The children also enjoyed climbing aboard pirate Pete’s ship and using the cart wheel as their steering wheel for their boat! ⚓️🏴‍☠️🚢

The INTENT of this avtivity was to allow the children to get imaginative, follow an interest and use their problem solving skills to find the treasure. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this throughout by having all the different resources for the children to explore. The IMPACT of this activity was to that the children were able to explore the pirate resources, get imaginative and problem solve to find the treasure too.

Dino Play Dough 💜🦖

Today in Penguin’s we have been exploring the dinosaurs and using the play dough to enhance our play further, this was leading on from the children’s interest in play dough and dinosaurs at the moment. Throughout the children created prints of the dinosaurs feet in the play dough whilst also talking about all the different characteristics of the dinosaurs too! We then looked at the resources we could use to explore and enhance our play further too. We sang “STOMP little dinosaur” and did the actions to go along. The children used the natural resources to feed the dinosaur, create different marks and so much more.

The INTENT of this activity was for the children to explore the resources and get creative throughout too. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having a range of resources to use to enhance their imagination whilst playing. The IMPACT of this activity was that the children were able to explore the dinosaurs, get creative and develop their imagination.

🐯Animal Bridges and Building👷‍♂️
Interests of JJP and MMB 😊

As the children have been enjoying exploring the animals, and many of them shared experiences of going to the zoo, farms, etc. during their half term holidays, we have focused on different animals and helping them! We built bridges, houses and shelters for the different animals. We had different planks and bricks, as well as a big house and sand for the animals to climb over. The children made big bridges to avoid the sand, pretending it was quicksand or lava that the animals had to escape from, they also built the animals houses and talked about the habitats that they all live in!

The intent of this activity was for the children to focus on their gross motor skills, and problem solving, building and figuring out how to avoid the sand. The children used lots of different parts to build bridges and houses for the animals. The children were able to develop their team working skills, working hard together to make their own houses and bridges for the animals.

The ladies implemented this activity by providing the children with blocks, planks, sand, the big house and lots of animals, as well as mark making tools for the sand! The ladies encouraged the children to make bridges and houses, using different parts and working together to figure out how to keep the animals safe. The children also then began to explore making their own creations, using teamwork and creativity to build houses and cars!

The impact of this activity was that the children were able to focus on their gross motor skills and problem solving skills. They managed to get the animals across the sand safely or make new habitats for them! We used team work and communication to explore what type of habitat each child would live in and explored things like what they could eat or drink- some children even begun to speak about animals that lay eggs, such as birds and snakes!

All in all, we’ve had a fabulous day problem solving and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Conker run! ✨

Today we have been exploring the conker run the ladies created for us leading on from our interest in the conker’s. We started off by gathering our conkers and began rolling them through the kitchen rolls watching them roll down and fall onto the floor. We did a countdown each time we let our conker drop and watched as they fell. We spoke about the speed of our conker and ways to make it go faster and slower too.

The INTENT of this activity was to enhance and follow on from the children’s interest in the conkers. The ladies IMPLEMENTED this by having the conker run available and having lots of conkers and natural resources to use. The IMPACT of this activity was to allow the children to enhance an interest and develop their hand and eye coordination too!

All in all we have had a fabulous day exploring the conker run and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

🛞Rolling and Tossing⚾️
Interests of JDJ and KD 😊

As the children have been enjoying rolling balls and pumpkins last week, we decided to focus on increasing our rolling skills. We had different tyres, wheels, balls and logs and decided to set up goals to roll, throw and slide through. The children enjoyed the rolling and throwing, then we started to improvise, using the tyres and crates to build houses and cars as well as rolling them!

The intent of this activity was for the children to focus on their gross motor skills, exploring rolling, throwing and kicking. The children used lots of different parts to roll, kick and throw, testing their hand eye coordination by aiming at certain goals and successfully rolling them through. The children were able to develop their team working skills, working hard together to roll and throw things into the right goals.

The ladies implemented this activity by providing the children with tyres, logs, wheels and rings which they could roll, kick or throw, as well as crates and spikes to set up for the children to use as goals to aim at! The ladies encouraged the children to set up goals of different shapes, sizes and distances and encouraged them to use all of the different tyres and wheels. The children also then began to explore making their own creations, using teamwork and creativity to build houses and cars!

The impact of this activity was that the children were able to focus on their gross motor skills and coordination. They managed to get the tyres, balls and logs into the goals, make new goals and challenges for themselves and each other as well as exploring their own creativity to use the same resources to make different things!

All in all, we’ve had a fabulous day rolling, throwing and building and we can’t wait to tell you all about it later! 🥰

Ducklings🐥

Construction Site🚧👷🧱

Today in Ducklings we have had lots of fun exploring our very own construction site! We provided hard hats, hi-vis jackets, toy drills and wooden blocks to create an exciting, hands-on construction experience. The children dressed up as builders, exploring the different tools and using the blocks to build their own creations!🚧👷🧱

Intent🚧
Our intention was to provide the children with an exciting, engaging role-play experience that encouraged curiosity, exploration and imaginative play. We wanted to introduce them to the world of construction while supporting their developing physical skills, communication, problem-solving and confidence through hands-on learning. The interest of this activity came from Child LL interest in building.🚧

Implementation👷
We created a construction site role-play area with hard hats, hi-vis jackets, toy drills and a variety of wooden blocks. The children were encouraged to explore the resources at their own pace, trying on the safety clothing, investigating how the drills worked and stacking, moving and arranging the blocks to build. The ladies supported the experience by introducing new vocabulary, modelling how to use the resources and encouraging the children to explore independently.👷

Impact🧱
The children were highly engaged and curious throughout the activity. They experimented with the different resources, developing their confidence as they explored new experiences. Some children focused on stacking and building with the wooden blocks, while others investigated the tools and dressing up as builders. This activity provided wonderful opportunities for learning through play, supporting a range of developmental skills in a fun and meaningful way.🧱

🚧Physical Development🚧
Handling the wooden blocks, picking them up, stacking them and using the toy drills helped develop the children's fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and control. Putting on and taking off their helmets and hi-vis jackets also encouraged independence and coordination.
👷Communication and Language👷
Throughout the activity, children were introduced to new vocabulary such as builder, construction, helmet, drill, block and build. Practitioners encouraged communication through conversations, questioning, naming objects and modelling new words, supporting children's understanding and early language development.
🧱Personal, Social and Emotional🧱
Dressing up as builders helped children develop confidence and independence. Sharing resources, exploring alongside their peers and taking part in a shared play experience encouraged social interaction, turn-taking and positive relationships.
🚧Mathmatics🚧
The children explored problem-solving as they experimented with balancing, stacking and arranging the wooden blocks. They began to discover cause and effect, learning what happened when blocks were placed on top of one another and how to make their structures more stable. This encouraged curiosity, concentration and early mathematical thinking.
👷Understanding the World👷
The construction site provided an opportunity for children to explore the world around them and learn about different jobs, tools and the role of builders. They were able to investigate unfamiliar objects and begin to make connections with what they may have seen in their everyday lives.
