Ariel Atom 3 brake upgrade from sport brakes with a 235mm brake disc to Alcon 4 pot Calipers with a 285mm 2 piece brake disc. Due to the upgrade in caliper size the master cylinder for the front brakes had to be upgraded aswell from a 5/8 tilton master cylinder to a 0.7 Tilton master cylinder. Makes a massive difference to the braking efficiency of the atom. Definitely an upgrade worth doing.

Ariel Atom clutch changed as the clutch pedal was very hard to push down and the clutch was dragging causing stiff selection of gears, this was due to thrust bearing failure and worn clutch fingers.
New stage 2 clutch fitted and gear oil replaced.

When putting the suspension back together it was noticed the upper push rod rose joint had excessive play so this was replaced aswell.

This Track Based Atom 2 was in need of a full refresh, so the chassis was completely stripped down, sent off to the sandblasters to be stripped back to bare metal before coming back to have strengthening gussets/ atom 3 updated chassis parts added ready to go to the powdercoaters.
It was decided to go for a black on black on black colour scheme.
The engine had a refresh and gearbox was rebuilt and new uprated clutch fitted.
The car was fully rebuilt with freshly painted panels, the car also had some wiring issues so these were resolved at the same time whilst the wiring loom was out of the car.
All worn rose joints and suspension bushes were replaced before being refitted.
The car was given a full alignment setup before going back on track for the first time after the rebuild.

This Toploader 4 speed transmission, out of a 1965 ford mustang, wouldn’t select 4th gear and would get jammed in 3rd.
After stripping the gearbox it became apparent that the 3/4 selector detents were snapped and broken.
Upon closer inspection there was major wear on all the gears on their synchro teeth.

The only option to get the gearbox back to how it should be was to carry out a full rebuild including all gears, synchronizer assembly’s, bearing and gaskets.

Upon refitting the gearbox, it became apprent that the gear selector rods weren’t adjusted correctly, this could have been a cause towards the problem in the first place. After adjusting the rods correctly and test driving the gearbox felt like it had just rolled off the factory floor

This is a Honda Civic FN2 gearbox but not from a Honda Civic, this was from a Supercharged Ariel Atom that decided to do a 4th gear delete. Gearbox was fully cleaned and rebuilt using new synchros bearings and 4th gears.

Ferrari California gearbox SAP unit gasket failure, luckily these are available from a guy who makes them in America. Quick delivery, unfortunately to get this unit out you have to split the gearbox in half. So not the smallest of jobs to complete.

B58 from a MK5 Toyota supra luckily there wasn’t any damage to the bore whatsoever after the skirt of the piston broke off. In the photo you can see how the piston ring just kept the skirt in position as not to cause further damage. Full rebuild of engine was carried out to future proof it moving forward.

Old gear set / synchros were completely worn out, cheapest option believe it or not, was to go with a straight cut gear set. As this little mini sees a lot of track use it’s the stronger option moving forward đŸ’Ș. Oh and the noise 😍

The importance of changing your gearbox/diff oil. This was found in a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 gearbox. New pinion and ring gear complete with diff needed to replace costing over ÂŁ4700 as the ring gear comes complete with the L*D. Full strip down and clean of the box required also due to metal particles in the oil.
