Tyre Safety Month may be coming to an end, but tyre safety is important all year round. As we head into winter, take a few minutes to check your tyres regularly. Ensure they have plenty of tread, are inflated to the correct pressure, and are free from damage such as cuts, bulges or embedded objects.

Your tyres are the only part of your vehicle in contact with the road, and with colder temperatures, wet weather, ice and fallen leaves increasing stopping distances, keeping them in good condition is essential for staying safe.

Winter weather can also make potholes harder to spot, especially when they're filled with rainwater. With the number of potholes on our roads continuing to increase, it's important to stay alert and avoid them where it is safe to do so. If you do hit a pothole, check your tyres as soon as possible for any signs of damage, such as cuts, bulges or a loss of pressure. Damage isn't always immediately obvious but could affect your vehicle's safety.

Remember to check your tyres before every long journey this winter. A simple check could make all the difference. 🚗❄️

Autumn brings more than falling leaves, it brings wetter roads too. 🍂🌧️

Wet weather reduces visibility, increases stopping distances and can catch even experienced drivers out, so it's worth taking a moment to make sure you're prepared.

Before you set off, check your windscreen wipers are working properly and make sure your tyres have adequate tread.

When you're on the road, remember that stopping distances are at least double those needed on dry roads, so keep well back from the vehicle in front.

They provide the vital contact with the road that allows your vehicle to brake, which makes their condition particularly important as October brings wetter roads.

Check them regularly and don’t wait until you need to stop suddenly to find out they weren’t ready for the job.
