New drivers can lose their licence if they get 6 or more points in the first 2 years. That means having to rely on others to get where you want to go again.
Keep within the speed limits. Keep your licence. Keep your freedom.

πŸš— Country roads can be unpredictable. Around the next bend there could be pedestrians, horse riders, cyclists, slow-moving farm vehicles, or even livestock in the road. πŸ‘πŸšœπŸš΄

Always reduce your speed when approaching a bend and make sure you can stop safely within the distance you can see to be clear.

Take care, slow down, and help keep everyone safe on our rural roads.

The campaign to protect young drivers and strengthen the driver licensing system in Britain has continued to see great momentum throughout April, with lots of discussion around what the Government need to do to reduce road death and injury caused by this at-risk group. Earlier this month we published our latest piece of research on the subject, our Young Driver Safety Report, and we're delighted by the reception it's had. We support changes that are backed by strong evidence and this report outlines both how we can reduce young drivers crashes, and the strong public support for the changes needed.

Click here to read the full report: www.brake.org.uk/young-driver-safety-report

This report was written by Brake and supported throughout by an academic advisory panel comprising Dr Ian Greenwood, who has campaigned to prevent collisions involving young drivers since his daughter Alice, 12, died in a crash; Dr Shaun Helman, chief scientist, behavioural sciences at TRL; Dr Neale Kinnear, chartered psychologist and behavioural scientist at Affective Mobility Ltd; and Dr Sarah Jones, consultant in environmental public health with Public Health Wales. We'd like to say a grateful thanks to this panel for their thoughtful consideration, expert advice and meticulous review.

πŸš— 6 Ways to BEAT Driving Test Anxiety (and actually pass!)

Most people don’t fail their driving test because they can’t drive... they fail because the nerves take over. 🧠 With UK average pass rates sitting at just 48.5%, staying calm is half the battle.

Here is how to keep your cool:

β€‹βœ… 1. Distract Your Brain
The 24 hours before your test is prime overthinking time. Don't sit at home visualizing failure. Go for a walk, see a movie, or meet friends. Keep your brain too busy to spiral.

β€‹βœ… 2. Burn Off the Cortisol
Sitting still makes anxiety worse. A quick 20-minute walk on the morning of your test helps lower stress hormones and settles those "stomach butterflies."

β€‹βœ… 3. Watch the Caffeine
We all love a coffee, but too much = shaky hands and a racing heart. Eat a light, balanced meal and keep the caffeine intake normal (or lower than usual!). Bananas help control nerves by providing nutrients that relax muscles and reduce anxiety, particularly potassium, magnesium, and vitamin B6.

β€‹βœ… 4. Prioritize "Pedal Feel"
Today isn't the day for a fashion statement. Wear light, breathable clothes andβ€”most importantlyβ€”flat, comfortable shoes so you can feel the bite point perfectly.

β€‹βœ… 5. Slow. Everything. Down.
The examiner isn't looking for speed or perfection; they’re looking for safety. Take that extra second at junctions. 🐒

βœ…6. Take a bottle of water with you to sip everyone you pull over to park,to rehydrate and give yourself a few seconds to calm down and catch your breath .

β€‹πŸ’‘Trust your instructor’s judgmentβ€”they wouldn't have let you book it if you weren't ready!

πŸ‘πŸ»πŸπŸ’ͺ🏻Good luck - you've got this

Common Driving Test Fails

The most # frequent faults seen during the practical driving test. These faults often occur when a driver fails to observe effectively, does not use mirrors correctly, or carries out a manoeuvre without sufficient control or planning.

Candidates must demonstrate that they can drive safely, legally, and independently, without causing other road users to change speed, direction, or take avoiding action. Consistent observation, correct mirror use, and good control of the vehicle are essential throughout the test.
