Winter Dashboard Warning Light Guide
A quick winter checklist from WVC Service Centre to keep your car safe this season.
Why Winter Triggers Warning Lights;
Cold weather puts extra strain on your car. Batteries weaken, fluids thicken and tyre pressure drops, so you may see more warning lights than usual. If anything appears and you are unsure, we are here to help.
Check Engine Light (Amber) -
Your car is telling you something is not right. Get it checked soon to prevent bigger issues. If it stays on or the car feels different, book diagnostics with WVC.
Brake Warning Light (Red) -
Important warning. Could mean worn pads, low brake fluid or a brake system fault. If it comes on while driving, stop when safe. We can inspect your brakes.
Oil Pressure Light (Red) -
Low oil pressure. Pull over and switch off the engine. Driving with this light on can cause major damage. Call us for support.
Engine Temperature Light (Red) -
Engine overheating or low coolant. Let the car cool before checking levels. If you are topping up often, there may be a leak. We can diagnose it.
Battery / Charging Light (Red) -
Battery or alternator issue. You may struggle to start or could break down. We can test and replace parts if needed.
Glow Plug Light (Diesels - Amber) -
If flashing, often a glow plug or sensor issue. Book diagnostics if it keeps returning.
Traction Control Light (Amber) -
Slippery road or system fault. Drive carefully in icy conditions. If it stays on, we can check the system.
Tyre Pressure Light (Amber) -
Cold weather lowers tyre pressures. Check for punctures and top up. If it stays on, we can inspect and reset it.
