Apparently replying to criticism = being defensive now 😂

I get this comment surprisingly often.

Someone will leave a rude or critical comment about the way I teach, I’ll reply and explain the context… and suddenly it becomes:

“No need to be so defensive, I was only trying to help.”

But here’s the thing - disagreeing with you isn’t defensiveness.

If you’re a complete stranger commenting on a two-minute clip from a two-hour lesson, you don’t know the learner, their ability, what we’ve already covered, what the learning objective was or what happened before and after that clip.

And equally, I don’t know you. I don’t know your experience, qualifications or whether your advice is something I should actually be taking.

So no, I’m not automatically going to accept unsolicited feedback simply because somebody has typed it confidently into a Facebook comment 😂

I run a business with my name and reputation attached to it. If somebody publicly suggests that I’m teaching incorrectly, of course I’m allowed to respond and give the context.

That doesn’t mean I think I’m always right. I learn from other instructors all the time and I’m perfectly capable of changing my mind when somebody makes a good point.

But there’s a difference between a genuine professional discussion and somebody giving unsolicited criticism, then calling you “defensive” when you don’t immediately agree with them.

You’re allowed to criticise me.
I’m allowed to answer.

That’s how public comment sections work 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

You’re free to comment. Just don’t cry when the sass comes back 💁🏻‍♀️

Chloe’s parking video caused a stir just as it did last year on TikTok.

The amount of instructors jumping on it trying to correct me was crazy.

The thing is, I don’t teach my learners to just pass a test. I teach them all scenarios.

Chloe’s practice was to prepare for busy right car parks with no space to correct herself.

It’s an exercise, not a rule to live by.

Do you park like Chloe?

I get so many comments telling me I’ll be out of work before long 🫠Would you trust a driverless car? 👇

Becoming an instructor is one thing. Knowing how to run the business is another 🚗

Something I include for PDIs on franchise with me is business support alongside their instructor training.

Because passing Part 3 is obviously the goal…but nobody hands you a certificate and magically teaches you how to be self-employed the next morning 😂

So alongside your practical training, I’ll also help you with things like:

• Setting yourself up as self-employed and understanding tax returns
• Diary management and building a working week that actually works
• Setting prices and understanding your business costs
• Dealing with difficult clients, cancellations and boundaries
• Social media, marketing and how to advertise yourself
• Building your own client base and preparing for life after qualification

My aim is to teach my PDIs how to become good driving instructors AND how to run successful businesses.

And there’s a reason for that.

If you qualify and decide you want to stay on franchise with me, you’re more than welcome to. ❤️

But if you qualify and think, “I’m ready to go out on my own now” I want you to be able to.

I’m not interested in deliberately withholding the business side so you’re reliant on a franchise, and I don’t believe in trapping newly qualified instructors into unnecessarily long contracts just to keep collecting a franchise fee.

I would much rather see somebody I’ve trained qualify with the knowledge, confidence and client base to build something of their own.

Train with me because you want my support…not because you can’t leave. 🚗🖤
