A little timelapse of another busy day at LG Local Garage 🔧

The workshops have been pretty much non-stop lately, with MOTs, servicing and repairs keeping the lads busy!

Our diary is filling up quickly, so if you know your MOT or service is coming up, or there’s something on the car you’ve been meaning to get looked at, it’s worth getting booked in sooner rather than later.

⚠️ This is why your tyres are worth checking regularly…

This tyre came into the workshop noticeably out of shape, something that can happen when the internal cords of the tyre become damaged, distorted or start to break down.

The scary bit? From a quick glance, a tyre like this might not always look as bad as it actually is.

Once the internal structure of a tyre is compromised, it can cause vibration, poor handling and, in the worst case, sudden tyre failure – particularly at higher speeds.

If you notice bulges, an unusual shape, vibration through the steering wheel or anything that just doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it.

🛠️ Here’s a quick brake check you can do at home…

Did you know you can get a rough idea of the condition of your brake discs without taking your wheels off?

Grab a pen and, through the wheel, carefully run it from the inside of the brake disc out towards the outer edge. ✍️

If the pen catches on the edge of the disc, that’s a good indication your disc has developed a noticeable lip through wear. While it doesn’t automatically mean it needs replacing, it’s definitely worth having it checked by a professional.

As for your brake pads, we generally recommend replacing them when they’re down to around 3mm or less. Waiting longer can affect braking performance and may mean replacing your discs sooner too.

Pete’s been fitting a fresh set of discs and pads in the workshop today, keeping another customer safely on the road. 🚗🔧

This video shows a split CV boot. It might not look like much, but it’s one of those little faults that can turn into a much bigger (and more expensive!) repair if it’s left unnoticed.

The rubber boot’s job is to keep grease in and dirt and water out. Once it splits, the grease escapes and grit gets inside, wearing out the CV joint. Before long, you could start hearing clicking noises when turning, and eventually the joint can fail completely.

The good news? Catching it early often means replacing the boot rather than the whole CV joint – saving you a lot of money.

That’s why it’s always worth having your car checked regularly, especially if you’ve noticed any unusual noises or it’s due an MOT or service.

With temperatures staying high, your engine is working that bit harder to keep itself cool. That’s why it’s really important to keep an eye on your vehicle’s fluid levels, especially your engine oil and coolant.

Check your levels when the engine is completely cold as this gives you the most accurate reading and helps avoid any nasty surprises.

A quick 2-minute check now could save you from an expensive breakdown later.

Sunday evening usually means one thing… getting ready for the week ahead.

If you’ve suddenly remembered your MOT is due, your service is coming up, or you’ve been meaning to get that little ni**le looked at, now’s the perfect time to get it booked in.

The workshop has been busy looking after everything from a classic Mini to an MX-5 and a Kia this week – and we’ll be doing it all again tomorrow.

Meet the newest member of the LG Local Garage team… Steven Seagull!

For some reason, this little chap has decided that LG is the place to be and has been hanging around the garage keeping a close eye on what we’re up to.

We’ve named him Steven Seagull (it had to be done! 😅), and we’re starting to wonder if he’s planning on sticking around as our official workshop mascot.

He’s not much use with an MOT yet, and we haven’t quite trusted him with the spanners… but he does seem very interested in everyone’s lunch!
