🚗 PARKING UPDATE – PLEASE READ! 🚗

Unfortunately, our car park has officially become a little more… exclusive 😅

For some time, our lovely neighbours have kindly allowed us additional parking in the bays opposite the centre. However, Euro Car Parks have now taken control of these spaces, which means they are no longer available for SVS customers or vehicles.

⚠️ Please DO NOT park in the bays opposite the centre ⚠️

Parking there could result in a £100 fine and as much as we love fixing expensive problems, we’d rather not add a parking ticket to the list! 😂

We are actively looking for additional parking to help ease the situation, but in the meantime we kindly ask for your patience and understanding while we work with the space we have available.

What does this mean for vehicle collections?🔑

Going forward, we will need completed vehicles to be collected on the same day that repairs are finished wherever possible. This is really important so we have enough space to accommodate the vehicles booked into the workshop the following day.

If same-day collection isn’t possible, we may unfortunately have to move the vehicle to a nearby public road. Please be aware that once a vehicle has been moved off our premises and onto a public road, it will no longer be covered by our premises insurance.
We completely appreciate that same-day collection won’t always be convenient, and we’ll always do our best to work with you, we just ask for a little understanding while we navigate our new game of automotive Tetris. 🚗🧩

🔧 A SMALL BUT MIGHTY PART 👀

It might not look like much, but the piston cooling jet has a pretty important job inside your engine!

These little jets spray engine oil onto the underside of the pistons, helping to control piston temperatures and keep everything properly lubricated 🌡️🛢️

When one starts to fail, you may notice things like:
⚠️ Engine warning lights
⚠️ Fault codes relating to the piston cooling/oil system
⚠️ Oil pressure concerns
⚠️ Increased engine temperatures
⚠️ Reduced performance or the vehicle entering restricted performance

And on the JLR vehicles we work on, there’s another common culprit we see…

The thermostat housing can leak coolant directly onto the piston cooling jet/associated components, eventually causing it to fail 💧

So sometimes, one small coolant leak can turn into another repair further down the line. Thanks, Land Rover 😂

Piston cooling jet faults are actually a fairly common repair for us here at SVS, and as always, getting the fault diagnosed properly rather than simply clearing the warning light can save a lot of hassle later.

Small part. Big job. And definitely not something you want giving up! 🔧

⚠️ BALD ON THE OUTSIDE? YOUR TYRES ARE TRYING TO TELL YOU SOMETHING! 👀🛞

We’re changing the tyres on this 2015 Discovery, and while the tread looked better across most of the tyre, both fronts were heavily worn on the outer edges…almost completely bald! 😬

So, why does this happen?

Uneven wear on the outside of your front tyres can be caused by a few things, including:

🔧 Wheel alignment being out - incorrect toe or camber can cause one area of the tyre to scrub against the road much more than it should.

💨 Incorrect tyre pressures - running tyres underinflated can increase wear around the outer edges.

🚙 Worn suspension or steering components - bushes, ball joints and other components can affect the position of the wheel and lead to uneven tyre wear.

The important bit? You might not notice it straight away. From a quick glance, the rest of the tread can look perfectly usable while the inner or outer edge is wearing dangerously low.

And with autumn and winter fast approaching, good tyres become even more important. Less tread means less ability to clear water, reduced grip and an increased risk of aquaplaning 🌧️❄️

“ADBLUE FAULT — NO ENGINE RESTART IN ### MILES” 💧

If you own a diesel JLR, this is one message you REALLY don’t want to ignore 😬

But what actually is AdBlue… and why is your car threatening not to start?!

AdBlue is part of your vehicle’s SCR emissions system. It’s stored in a completely separate tank and injected into the exhaust gases to help reduce harmful nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.
Basically…

🚙 Engine produces exhaust gases
⬇️
💧 AdBlue is injected into the exhaust
⬇️
🧪 The SCR system uses it to help convert harmful NOx
⬇️
🌿 Cleaner emissions leave the exhaust

So what’s with the scary countdown?

If the vehicle detects certain faults within the AdBlue/SCR system, you may see something along the lines of:

⚠️ “No engine restart in 500 miles”
And yes… it means exactly what it says 😅

The mileage will continue counting down and, if the underlying problem isn’t rectified, the vehicle can eventually reach the point where it will not restart after being switched off.

And here’s where it gets interesting…

Sometimes the tank can be FULL of AdBlue and the warning still won’t disappear.

Why?

Because on some of the JLRs we see at SVS, the problem isn’t a lack of AdBlue, it’s a fault within the AdBlue tank/system itself.
When our diagnostics confirm the tank assembly or sensor is the culprit, the repair can involve replacing the AdBlue tank assembly, followed by the necessary diagnostic procedures to get the system operating correctly again🔧

So if you’ve filled your AdBlue…
Filled it again…
Stared angrily at the dashboard…
And that countdown is STILL there…
Please don’t just keep adding more, as this can too cause problems!

Get it diagnosed before that number reaches ZERO🚨

Another day, another JLR trying to communicate through increasingly threatening dashboard messages!
