2 Days in the Studio: 2016 Mercedes CLS in Northern Lights Purple 🟣

Northern Lights is easily one of the most stunning factory colours Mercedes has ever produced, but like any deep metallic paintwork, road film, industrial fallout, and light surface haze can quickly steal its vibrancy.

This CLS spent two days in our secure Bromborough studio for our Entry Level Detail & Gloss Enhancement package:

✅️ Step 1: Decontamination Wash
Before touching a machine to the paint, the car received a thorough multi stage safe wash, chemical fallout removal, and a mechanical clay bar treatment to ensure a clinically pure surface.
✅️Step 2: Single Stage Machine Polish
Using our Rupes machines, we carried out a dedicated gloss enhancement polish to eliminate surface greyness and unleash that incredible metallic purple flake.
✅️ Step 3: CarPro C.Quartz 3.0 Ceramic Coating
To lock that showroom finish in for the long haul, we installed a 2 year CarPro C.Quartz ceramic coating. This adds protection against UV rays, bird muck and road salt.
✅️ Step 4: Full Interior Refresh
Finished off with a meticulous interior clean to leave the cabin feeling as fresh as the exterior looks.

The True Cost of 10 Years of "Convenience" Washes.

In the studio today, we have a prime example of why proper wash techniques matter and how precision machine polishing can completely turn back the clock.

This 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLS finished in rare Northern Lights Violet Metallic arrived with its paintwork in critical condition.

For nearly a decade, this vehicle was subjected to automated brush car washes and fast roadside hand washes.

While quick washes seem convenient, abrasive nylon brushes and grit contaminated wash mitts act like micro sandpaper over time. On a deep, complex shade like this CLS, years of aggressive contact left the clear coat heavily swirled, oxidised, and covered in wash marring—completely burying the metallic flake and leaving the finish dull and lifeless.

What Does Machine Polishing Actually Do for Your Vehicle?

A single stage machine polish was carried out today to safely lift away the swirl marks. The dull haze has been replaced by razor sharp reflections and that deep, signature purple tone this Mercedes was designed to showcase.

The vehicle is now fully panel wiped, oil free, and resting in the studio ready for its ceramic coating installation tomorrow to seal in the finish.
