Mr Fuggle has two 36IVs available from the latest batch which have been fully restored to 'Bling' specification.
The castings have been vapour blasted and the steelwork has been re-plated.
Spindle bushes have been fitted and reamed to suit new spindles and butterflies.
All new gaskets and seals and a new diaphragm have been fitted, along with a new needle valve and tested original float -set up to the green book.
Once complete, you can see that they have been run-up on Mr Fuggle's Series 1 and idle speed and mixtures set.

One is a Zenith branded item, the other is the rarer Solex version, both exactly the same. The Zenith currently has the screw-on union for the plastic fuel lines but this can be swapped-out for a plain brass spigot for rubber pipe and jubilee clip application!

£250 plus postage and no VAT

A third one is in the wings, waiting for a backordered rebuild kit!

First batch-Fettle in the new Scottish Fuggle HQ! It’s not a log store any more!

A batch of 6 Zenith / Solex 36IVs and a brace of Solex 32PBI-2s getting the treatment.

Mr Fuggle’s left hand is doing OK but still no feeling for half of two of the fingers. I suppose it’s still early days!

We have rain up here. So while Mr Fuggle is shuffling stuff about to get the new Scottish HQ working, the test vehicle came out of the garage to release a bit of dry shuffling space and it went out for a bit of shrinkage! The new tilt has been dry since it was fitted but the back flap is a bit too low down as were the sides. After a bit of the wet stuff, the sides look much better so I hope the back will too and it’s very taught on the top.

Mangled hand update:

Mr Fuggle's Ryobi Rash is now much less unsightly! A fist can be made now but the index and middle fingers still have no feeling on one of their sides. They're still swollen, mind, so there's hope!

The middle finger won't extend fully (to the relief of fellow road users!) but Mr Fuggle can't be sure whether that was because of a previous attempt to skin it by putting it between a hammer and wheelstuds of a Triumph Vitesse (twice!) 30 years ago or getting it trapped between a collapsing scissor jack and the chassis of the same Vitesse 35 years ago.

This isn't holding him back, though, three more Solex 32PBI-2s and a Solex B40 have been partially Fettled this week and another batch of 6 Zenith 36IVs await reassembly....

"Gettin' jiggy wid it!?"

Lots of Series 1 Land Rover Solex carbs come in with broken choke bodies. The cause is gorilla mechanics trying to undo the nut holding the lever on the spindle without supporting the lever. The spindle twists, the lever reaches its forward stop and snaps it off.
Mr Fuggle's usual technique for repair is to machine the base of the broken stop flush, centre-drill it and fit a replacement stop made from brass with an integral peg. It's brass because an aluminium one would last 5 minutes. Oh, and the brass comes from scrapped Lucas CW1 wiper motor spindles!

The trouble is, to hold it steady in the vice of the milling machine needed at least two sets of t-nut studs, milling machine wedges and steady bars screwed to the milling machine base to simply press the body down on to the vice and because it was just pressed down, there was always a danger of it slipping.

A brain-wave, use of a sketch from a previously drawn CAD file of the whole carburetter and a 3D printer resulted in a Fuggle's Fettling Machine-O-Matic.

Simply screw the broken choke body to the jig, making use of the integrated captive nuts added during the 3D printing process, clamp the jig in the vice and using the DRO on the milling machine, the broken nub is machined, centre-drilled and then fully drilled to suit the new brass peg. It can be used in a session and repair a load of them at once without re-setting the whole assembly. Simples.

So the 'Yard Art' was because Mr Fuggle needed to get his Botts out and polish them!
Bott workshop cupboards that is, which have been stored in the car garage since he moved in. The cars had to come out to get at them. The Land Rover and Sprite have been used recently so started up fine, the Mini needed the usual 'encouragement' of the fuel pump to get that going.
The cupboards, courtesy of Mr James Clough scrubbed up well and are all now in the new HQ awaiting for the doors to be fitted to the space and then arranged around the walls. The new HQ is coming on, with nice interlocking PVC floor, electrical power and a couple of frivolities thrown in for good measure.
Doors are to be fitted in the first week of August which should give time for the swelling to reduce in Mr Fuggle's hand (which is now much less unsightly) and the feeling to come back and for the big move of Mr Fuggle's carburetter stock to happen!
