⚠️ A Costly Mistake That Could Have Been Avoided ⚠️
Today we had a Range Rover Evoque recovered to us with a catastrophic engine failure.
The cause? The owner accidentally poured AdBlue into the engine oil filler instead of the AdBlue tank.
Unfortunately, once AdBlue contaminates engine oil, it can cause severe internal damage. In this case, the engine has been destroyed and is now facing a very expensive repair bill.
📸 These photos show the contamination and the damage left behind.
This isn’t about blaming anyone. Modern vehicles are becoming increasingly complex, and it’s easy for someone without the correct knowledge or training to make a costly mistake.
🔧 This is exactly why we believe the motor industry should be better regulated. Too often people are encouraged to “have a go” without understanding the risks, and social media is full of misleading advice that can end up costing thousands.
Before topping up fluids, carrying out repairs, or following advice from the internet:
✅ Check the owner’s manual
✅ Ask a qualified technician
✅ Seek professional advice if you’re unsure
Sometimes spending a few minutes asking a question can save thousands of pounds.
At Your Local Mechanic, we’re always happy to offer advice before a small issue turns into a major one.

Remember: Not every cap under the bonnet is for the same fluid. If you’re not 100% sure, don’t guess.
