Project 959 Resto mod is advancing nicely!

With the rear chassis leg replacements complete, custom subframe mountings to accept the 997 subframes/suspension and one off strut top mountings it is fast approaching the point where we can get the 911 turbo centre lock wheels on and get the car rolling again 😎

Whilst the grinders were out and the creative juices were flowing, it was time to bolt the PDK gearbox to the aircooled engine, sit it in place and start making the mounts to hold it all in!

We’re looking forward to starting on the exhaust system and intake manifold work next - seeing the Garrett - Advancing Motion G series turbos and Turbosmart electronic wastegates sitting pretty will be a special moment 😍😜

That’s some nostalgia right there!

An old school Audi Quattro turbo sat quietly on the ramp - right next to its younger, faster, more powerful cousin 😮‍💨😎

This old school legend is in need of some TLC in the engine and fuelling department - previous repair issues have led to the car being dropped to us for a diagnosis and repair.

The initial symptoms were an exhaust blow on cold start, with the rhythm of a single cylinder blow…… our previous experience with the older water cooled VW/Audi engines led us to believe this was a simple exhaust gasket issue and we were spot on with the diagnosis!
What we didn’t know at that point was the additional repairs that would be required.

As always we carried out an engine health check before disassembly and found cylinders 1 and 5 to be nearly 50% down on compression and showing results over 70% on the leak down test….. time to say ‘off with its head’!

The cylinder head was quickly dropped to the machine shop for some weld repairs, new valve seats and a reface….. for us that was the easy bit! 😜

The block shows signs of water/coolant damage in the cylinders but thankfully the damage is repairable with a good hone!
With the cylinders honed, new rings and bearings it will be time to put this back together and set up the fuel system…. This project is going to keep us busy for a little longer!

What do you do when your exhaust wheel decides it wants to be in the downpipe and not in the turbo?
Upgrading is the only logical option 😂

With a Garrett - Advancing Motion Powermax1 fitted, new Scorpion Exhausts // Red Power downpipe (high speed turbo parts aren't very healthy for a cat), sump removed + cleaned, and a large amount of oil cleaned from the intake tract. The car also had a full health check and was borescoped to check debris hadn't gone anywhere it shouldn't. ECOTUNE UK - Premium German Software 📈 ECU and TCU software rounded out the package and gave the car a healthy 449.7hp.

The engine room is in full swing - currently scattered with broken engines and components waiting for rebuild or repair… there’s even a couple of transmissions thrown in there too! 👀

This Mk7.5 Golf R received the Garrett - Advancing Motion Powermax1 treatment alongside some other essential upgrades/maintenance. It was treated to:

Garrett Powermax1 Turbo
ECOTUNE UK - Premium German Software 📈 ECU and TCU software
Powerflex Suspension Bushes front wishbone bushes
Vagbremtechnic braided brake lines
Genuine rear prop couplinguk billet coolant outlet

The result? Stage 2 power with the stock downpipe and intercooler in place, no worries when it comes to MOT time, and a much tighter feel to the handling and brakes.

ECOTUNE UK - Premium German Software 📈 are well known for their skills with the MQB platform and this MK8 R is a prime example. The car had previously been tuned elsewhere but the customer felt it didn't quite live up to the claimed gains. Our dyno confirmed the customers suspicions so they opted to go for Ecotune's ECU and TCU software. The results:

🌶️ More power
🌶️ More torque
🌶️ Better drivability
🌶️ Proper launch control

With the addition of an intercooler (charge temps on the stock intercooler get toasty) this will make for a brilliant package that delivers what an R should.

A cheeky 6 speed upgrade for this T6 - replacing another knackered 5 speed gearbox.

The T5 and T6 5 speed gearbox is well documented for its all too common failures, ranging from failed casings, worn casings, premature 5th gear failure, excessive wear/noise….the list goes on.

This particular vehicles gearbox was getting worse very quickly, with chattering and excessive noise in every gear, but even more prominent in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear when hot.
The oil was drained and showed substantial contamination from excessive wear.

As with everything, this gearbox could have been fixed, but until it was removed and stripped/inspected the costs and downtime were unknown. The decision was made to drop in the more reliable 6 speed gearbox, clutch and flywheel and relevant parts to carry out the swap.
This is a fully working conversion - including an engine software change to make the gear indicator operational in the dash ….. it’s the little things that make the difference 😜

We’ve being carrying out T5.1/T6 engine replacements for so long now we forget to post about them on a regular basis… they feel like part of the furniture!

This is one from last week - it was treated to a recon engine…. Hand built by us of course….. new flywheel, service parts etc etc.

We’re still here - still diagnosing, still repairing and still replacing the CFCA and CXEB bi turbo engines, along with the full range of single turbo engines, 5 speed and 6 speed gearboxes, suspension upgrades…. If it’s mechanical we do it!
