This is Mike with his two much loved Harleys, a 1992 and 1972 Electra glide. Mike incidentally was AFB's first ever client! 😎

Sadly Mike passed away, all the staff would like to offer our sincere condolences to his family. He was a proper old school gent and we became firm friends. Poor health kept him from his frequent 3 days a week visits to the store but he was never far from our thoughts.

Rest easy Mike

The last Hurrah!

There comes a point for any competitive sportsman when you should step away, and that day my friends has arrived for AFB Racing, Chris always maintained that he’d race until he hit 50 and that milestone was reached this year.

Chris & I have campaigned 24 seasons together and always on a Yamaha R1, starting on a 1998 through to a 2020 model. We’ve had a number of teammates across the years riding under the Purple & Yellow banner and enjoyed running at the sharp end with all of them. 💜💛

Our final round was to be at Castle Combe, a track Chris has always enjoyed, there was an added element to this weekend, I was invited to ride in the parade and I’d be on circuit with Chris, it was a fitting way to sign off albeit with a tinge of sadness, all good things inevitably come to an end. We’d like to thank NG Road Racing for making our last outing a memorable one, thanks guys.

Chris has always been generous with his fellow competitors, helping and advising where possible, even getting me to donate parts and fix broken machines when I saw an opportunity to take advantage of their absence, win on merit not by others misfortune. As for me I’ve tried to provide a package to allow who ever sat on it to perform to their best ability.
So here’s a roll call of all the Purple & Yellow riders across the years, 3 champions, some runners up, and all have stood on the box at some point.

Oulton park was our penultimate round, it's a popular track with riders as it offers a challenging lap of elevation changes, hard breaking and it's fast!

The Friday test went well with good weather and we settled in to an acceptable rhythm. Saturday was scheduled for some rain which has never presented a problem for us, however it was to be one of those very changeable days with it raining one one part of the circuit and dry on the other.

Given that this is always a one day event race day went straight into qualifying on a drying circuit which I dont think we exploited to our best advantage. Our races followed a similar pattern although Chris had some good all race long battles, we only managed lap times in the 1.47's which is a little off his PB here but we did finish inside the top ten.

An enjoyable event, the Friday night curry was a good one! And garage 20 was rocking it! 💜💛🏁

Thanks to our awesome sponsors Michelin Motorcycle helperformance.com HM Racing RT Signs and Ian and Gordy for the excellent pictures 🥰

Who doesn’t love Donington! A track of two halves, fast and flowing into stop start and hard breaking.

The Friday test day was a scorcher, we worked into sessions with our new chassis set up slow and steady, with the repair budget pot well and truly depleted we couldn’t afford any mishaps.

Thanks to Will always on the end of the phone for suspension advice, we tried a lot of new things once again and enjoyed the process.

I don’t think we were ever going to trouble the front runners this weekend with the pace at the front, some of the guys dropping into the 1.08’s impressive! However, we did manage to get back to something like our normal pace even if it did take the whole weekend to do so.

Chris had a good final race, even though he started from the back of the grid he actually got something close to a good start, we have been experimenting with a launch from 2nd gear and it appears to work for him. Chris made up a lot of places managing to climb up the order to 10th and setting lap times in the 1.12’s

The Saturday night curry was a good one! Garage 32 had a good vibe and some banging cake thanks to Rose Cottage Cakes and good company. All in All pretty enjoyable 🥰💜💛🏁

Thanks as always to our sponsors Michelin Motorcycle helperformance.com RT Signs HM Racing and Ian Young (I can't tag you for some reason)
