One of the great things about motorhoming is that it's almost like a constant series of "Escape to the Country" - in the sense that you get to experience living in different places, and just occasionally - you happen upon a place that you really like. So it is with Mr and Mrs T who discovered they loved the Isle of Wight so much, they decided to make it their permanent home. The desire to travel remains in the blood though, and rather than keep the big C class, they bought our lovely little Devon Firefly - the perfect choice for keeping up those adventures - especially after we fitted a new awning, a double USB plugs and a solar panel. One gets used to a certain standard don't you know...

Having spent time in Japan - I've always admired their really futuristic looking vans, and thought what a great camper they would make. Relatively short and narrow (as parking space in Japanese cities is a big issue they are great at making use of space) they can often reach places other campers can only dream of. The compromise is of course headroom for the tall, and washrooms for those in need. Issues that Mr & Mrs R. from Dundee wanted to solve without compromising their ability to get places, so they traded their beloved Toyota for our amazing Wildax Motorhomes Pulsar - only 5 metres long and yet possessing all those little niceties that elevate the camping experience. It's a fair old run back to Dundee, so they are off to overnight at our favourite local campsite in Henley on Thames. 良い旅をしてください

We come across all sorts of interests that motorhomes provide the transport and accommodation for, but I think this is a first. Mr H. collected his Burstner Ixeo IT726G - a second purchase from us that just had irresistible appeal with its fixed single beds in the rear and drop down over the lounge. It's on it's first outing to Gloucester railway station - and before you raise an eyebrow, let me enlighten you to the historical significance of said station. The mid 1800's saw railway rivalry at boiling point, and Gloucester was the key battleground. Northern trains arrived on standard track, and next door, Great Western trains on broad track. Because the tracks didn't match, even Queen Victoria was forced to change trains, so clearly the country needed a single track size, but should they choose Stephenson's standard gauge, or Brunel's broad gauge? The "Battle of the Gauges" began, ending with parliament choosing the inferior standard gauge because it was cheaper to implement. Consider this amazing feat then HS2, when, having lost the battle, the GWR decided to change their existing track to standard gauge in just one weekend...

Mrs W. is a highly experienced motorhome buyer - having previously owned 2 other motorhomes. This stunning orange Adria Twin 640, is her latest acquisition - built to look amazing - not only just down the road in Henley on Thames, but also touring around France and Spain. A funny thing they realised, of the 3 motorhomes they've owned, all have come from dealerships with similar names, but totally unconnected to each other. The first was from SMC in Newark, the second from SMC in Somerset, and of course the third from your very own SMC here in Bracknell. They do say save the best until last don't they?

We first met Miss H at the Newbury show, where she happened to be shopping for the ever popular Wildax Motorhomes Solaris XL. A fortunate encounter because we happened to have one in stock and here we are just a fortnight later, handing over after a successful test drive, and the fitting of a nice awning. Solaris is of course a Latin word meaning "of the sun" which is timely as we are in the middle of a mini heatwave - perfect weather to stretch the vans new legs with a tour of amazing North Wales.

Wildax are pretty rare beasts anyway, but the Wildax Motorhomes Elara is exceptionally so, with, to our knowledge, only 49 ever made. No wonder Mr B. was prepared to safari all the way from Perth in Scotland in search of such luxury. Based on the Mercedes Sprinter - the Elara features a supremely comfortable pocket-sprung custom mattress, a kitchen Gordon would be proud of, and a wet room to rival Emirates 1st class. With 120-litres of fresh water, twin 100Ah leisure batteries, and 40 litres of LPG, you can fire up the new BBQ point as often as you like, wherever you like - especially in bonnie Scotland!

Looking resplendent in matching blue liveries are the Auto-Trail Tracker FB and Mr. M - it's proud new owner. Most motorhomes are white for thermal efficiency, but you have to say that blue is a beautiful colour, and so much easier to match attire with. Hailing from the beautiful county of Wiltshire - Mr M. is another of those joining us from the caravanning community - and you may be thinking why would anyone want to leave those rolling green hills and prehistoric monuments? Simple - the one thing Wiltshire lacks is a coastline - so it's off to Westbay to enjoy blue skies, blue sea, in a blue motorhome, wearing matching blues...

Anybody who has tackled the lanes of Devon, will know the reason why all the locals seem to drive round in very old, very small cars. Some of the best places can be down the narrowest lanes, so having a full A or C class can prove a challenging drive. Hence why Mr J opted for the Wildax Motorhomes Solaris XL. Inside it's got everything you see in a much bigger motorhome, while outside it's just van wide - still a squeeze, but much more manageable. We downrated the payload to enable the van to be driven by drivers who passed their test after 1997. First trip is off to Wi******er with their camping club and before you leap for your autograph book, Mr J is not related to Gary Lineker....
