🌧️🛰️ Two new things on Find Green Lanes this week.

WHERE IT'S BEEN RAINING

Switch on the new Rainfall layer (layers button, top right) and the map shades by how much rain has actually fallen — over the last 24 hours, 3 days or 7 days.

Seven days is usually the question worth asking. 5mm on chalk in August is nothing. 5mm on clay in February is a bog. 🫠

KEEP SATELLITE OPEN WHILE YOU READ THE MAP 🛰️

Standard and Topo tell you a lane's designation and its name. Only the imagery tells you its surface. Answering both used to mean switching base map and losing your place.

The Satellite card now has a little popout button. Press it and a floating window opens showing exactly what your main map is showing

We've all done it. Looked at a lane on the map, thought "that'll be fine", and then met the hill. 😅

So — every lane and route on Find Green Lanes now has a 3D button. It drapes the line over the actual shape of the ground, so you can see the climb before you're halfway up it.

Spin it, tilt it, stretch the hills up to 5× if you want the shape to really read, flick the backdrop between map, topo and bare hillshade (that last one's lovely — just the land and your route on it), or press ▶ Fly route for a flyover of the whole thing.

Here's what's been happening on Find Green Lanes:

What a fantastic week of green laning across the UK!

- New Routes: Trail lovers shared great new routes, including Peddars Way (A11 North), Strayground Lane, Wymondham - Melton Deep Road, Big Salisbury Loop, and the 50-mile Alice Holt Loop.

- Freshly Named Lanes: Dan has been mapping out new tracks, officially naming Pepperbox Hill Byway, Radar Lane, and Unicorn Byway.

- Lane Reviews & Ratings: Members posted helpful condition updates, including Tom Burrows' detailed reviews of Coopers Lane and Bagman's Lane, alongside Matt B's ratings for Cemetery Road and Lower Warren Road.

- Photos & Pins: Dan dropped useful locations like the Dartmoor Wild Camping Navigation Pin and Black Lane Navigation Pin, while treating the community to vibrant photos of Pepperbox Hill Byway and Radar Lane.

- Welcome New Members: A huge welcome to our newest green laners, including Spud Head, Carl Metcalfe, WADE HEAMES, and Ollie Foote!

Yesterday I continued my exploration of some of Wiltshire's byways, starting at Pepperbox Hill. This National Trust property is at the start of a lovely, easy-going byway with great views, and an early start meant I had the place to myself.

Early byways before work also let me test the app further — every trip makes it better and squashes a few more bugs.
