A Classic MG B GT Deserves a Second Chance β€οΈπ | Paint Restoration in Progress
Some cars are more than just cars. They carry memories, family history, and stories that deserve to be preserved.
This classic red MG B GT belongs to my client's father, and when you look at its paintwork today, you can see just how much time has taken its toll. What was once a beautiful red finish has faded towards orange, with heavily oxidised panels, dull surfaces, and almost no gloss left.
But here's the thing: the goal isn't always to make an old car look brand new. Sometimes, it's about bringing back as much of its original beauty as possible while preserving the paint that's still there.
Before touching the machine polisher, the car needs the right preparation. I'll begin with a thorough wash, followed by degreasing and both chemical and mechanical decontamination using a clay bar. Once the surface is clean, I'll carefully dry the vehicle, mask sensitive areas, and carry out several test spots to determine the safest and most effective polishing technique.
Why test first? Because with older, heavily oxidised paintwork, there's no room for guesswork. Every classic is different, and removing too much clear coat or original paint in pursuit of perfection can do more harm than good.
With this MG B GT, preservation comes first. The aim is to revive the colour, restore as much gloss as safely possible, and respect the character of a car that has already lived a long life.
This is only the beginning of the journey. β€οΈ
