Craig’s Silver S3 in for a slipping clutch! With an added twist…

First round of parts:
LUK DMF
LUK Clutch kit
Fresh power steering fluid

Gearbox nice and clean and all back together….

Attempted to bleed up the clutch and had zero fluid coming of the hydraulic pipe? Cracked the pipe off further up and still nothing. Took the pipe off the master, nothing. Pipe off reservoir? free flowing! Master cylinder was blocked. Not leaking, which inadvertently explained why the clutch was slipping, it was managing to engage but couldn’t disengage! Very weird one

Thanks to Andy TT Spares and Matty Barlow for the help as i have never seen this happen before.

Round 2:
Sachs Master Cylinder
Brake servo pipe

Whilst i was in there, i found the brake servo pipe completely split and soon to cause a very hard pedal!

Thanks for the patience from Craig and his dad , 2 of the nicest customers i’ve ever dealt with. Even stayed the night in Bolton and said they had a great time🤣 Must be lying!

Hello everyone,

As from October i will start taking on jobs again but due to the mad workload for 1 person, i will no longer be doing any suspension/brake work of any kind. They take up too much of my time and i hate every minute of doing it!

I would rather do jobs i actually enjoy and know what is likely to give me grief etc. I will put a list below of some of the standard jobs with a price and these are non negotiable. The parts prices are through the roof!

I’m happy to do the more involved jobs like replacement steering racks, diff replacements etc that i can get stuck into, but i’m not changing a pair of callipers or your front springs, and i’m certainly not rebuilding the rear end of your car!

1.8T:
Timing belt and water pump £450
3pc Clutch and flywheel £1000
3pc clutch only £520
Standard engine supplied and fitted with cambelt + clutch (no flywheel) £2000

Obviously should these jobs require any other parts, it will be extra.

I will still do the VR6 conversions but i am supplying the engines from now on. I had an issue with the last one and it wasn’t right. I do work on VR6s but this is on a job to job basis as i don’t do enough to give standard prices.

If anyone has any questions just ask, I’m not moaning i just don’t have enough hours in the day to be trying fix stuff i don’t want to do. The business is 50/50 parts and fixing, i can’t take on work that is making me miserable as it affects both sides.

Please don’t be offended if i say i don’t want to do the work.

MK6 GTI DSG i bought with a dead engine

Replacement CCZ supplied and fitted, engine had a fair few bits missing so had to swap:
- Loom
- Alternator
- AC Pump
- All coolant pipes
- N75/DV/Throttle body (all had been damaged in shipping)

Possibly the easiest engine i’ve ever changed

Fresh oil and filter, fresh fuel filter

Original engine had melted the end of one of the spark plugs so presuming it had run lean due to the map or a bad injector

ECU is on its way to be reverted back to standard and then the car will be up for sale. I do however believe it is already sold!

Nice bit of kit the DSG ones

I will be back in work from tomorrow so will get back to everyone when i can. Please bear with me at the moment.

2.0 Stroker!

Hopefully all of you know me well enough now to know how honest I am when it comes to selling used parts, especially engines!

You may be wondering where the stroker went from last week… here’s your answer.

When changing the bearings, i discovered a badly damaged one on cylinder 1 which amazingly led to me discovering the absolute tiniest kink in the rod!! Compression test was good and nothing sounded untoward but i couldn’t sell it

I ended up speaking with a customer and took a deposit on the pretence it was fixed and at the same time he opted to change the cambelt, pump and fit some Badger 5 Ltd Cat Cams i had bought

Work carried out:
-Replacement IE rod (cyl 1) courtesy of Dinger Dismantlers
-Replacement TFSI head gasket
- All new elring seals in the head
- supply and fit Badger cams
- Replace bent rod
- All new ACL bearings and thrust washers
- Rear elring main seal
- Gates belt and pump
- All timed / torqued up and back to my usual standard

Rocker and sump are not properly fitted as he’s fitting a baffled one and a replacement rocker cover

Hope the new owner is happy with his fanstatic bit of kit!

Absolutely huge job that i’ve been picking at for the last 6 months, many of you will know about this as it’s been sat in the yard

Brief explanation, very nice Imola S3, 1.8T. Very horrible ming blue S3, Forged 2.8 VR6T converted - Owner wanted the 1.8T gone and the Vr6 swapping into the imola.

What was done:
- Engine and box, fuel pump and intercooler removed from ming blue car, rest was broken for parts
- Engine/box , fuel pump, gear cables , exhaust , intercooler all removed from yellow car

Whilst it was out:
- Complete timing chain kit inc sprockets and every nut and bolt
- Sump replaced, cleaned and resealed
- Twin plate clutch kit fitted
- MQ500 conversion courtesy of Deutsche Automotive, inc mounts and bellhousing adapter
- New AN rocker cover
- Replacement oil drain with custom fitting from Lostinfab (the old pipe was shocking! and no longer fit)
- Water Pump
- Reinstate aircon pump
- Replacement engine mount (pulled threads)
- Machine shop called to remove someone’s previously snapped sump bolt they’d gummed over!🤦🏻‍♂️

Installation:
- Custom shafts supplied by customer
- Notch chassis leg
- Strip, simplify and rewrap VR lambda loom and swap for the 1.8T one + ECU
- Merge 1.8T cables and MQ Tiguan cables (basically S3 box with tiguan cables/ends + box bracket)
- All fluids replaced. engine/box/tcase etc
- Cupra R power steering line to replace the standard low pressure ones (they no longer fit)
- Tiguan bleed block
- Vibratechnic drivers engine mount
- Big front mount and oil cooler swapped over
- Sytec pump swapped over
- Exhaust swapped over (but needs completely remaking, it’s an abomination🤮)
- Replacement driver hub, shaft was nut fl**ge not bolt 🤦🏻‍♂️

Of course the battery no longer fits, so courtesy of TT Spares, V6 cable was supplied and fitted to relocate it

Customer also stated the diff was broken 🤣 So replacement rear diff supplied and fitted with fresh fluids, filter and pump as requested

The quality of workmanship on the engine prior to me was frankly awful. JB welded sump, they’d JB welded the fitting for the oil drain into the sump AS WELL! The oil drain on the turbo side was jubileed? And completely loose . Water pump had never been changed and had broken up, snapped sump bolt

The job was no where near done, but the amount of work that went into that car was massive. The coolant pipework needs rejigging as it was designed to use the bottle on the wrong side and obviously the entire boost system is all wrong, but unfortunately i’m not a magician! So off to the fab shop it has gone .

Next steps need to be be an Ignitron ECU, mechanical boost control and a completely different turbo setup. But it is a turbo key VR6T now so hopefully it’s a starting point!

Have a flick through !

Ps, would i do another? not unless ive done it all🤣

big 600x300 welly intercooler with all pipework off an S3

may fit TT and Cupra R with some fettling

fit really nice on the S3, they’d took the fog grills out but hadn’t chopped all the bumper up and left the lights too!
