π¦ T-Junction β Give Way
When approaching a T-junction with a Give Way sign, you must slow down, be prepared to stop, and give way to traffic on the main road.
β
Turning left or right: Both directions are permitted at this junction in the photo.
β Do not cut across the hatched markings when turning left.
β
Follow the correct lane markings and position your vehicle safely before turning.
White diagonal lines on UK roads are called hatched markings, diagonal stripes, or chevrons.
What They Mean:
βοΈ Hatched markings with a broken white line:
You should not enter this area unless it is necessary and you can see that it is safe to do so. They are often used to separate opposing flows of traffic, protect vehicles turning right, or lead up to a central traffic island.
βοΈ Hatched markings or chevrons with a solid white line: You MUST NOT enter this area except in an emergency.
We have both a broken and a solid white line in this image.
π Remember: Slow down, look both ways, give way to traffic on the main road, and follow the road markings to make a safe turn.
