Before you set off, take a moment to check your vehicle's fluid levels 💧.
They should be checked weekly, and warning lights ⚡️ should never be ignored.

Take a few minutes to check:

✅WINDSCREEN WASH 💦
✅BRAKE FLUID 🌡️
✅RADIATOR COOLANT 🩸
✅ENGINE OIL ⚙️

Brake fluid is especially important. Low levels can lead to brake failure, which can cause accidents and put other drivers and pedestrians at risk .
A simple check can help keep you and other road users safe.

Are you confident when coupling up your trailer or caravan?
Don’t forget to:
✅ Make sure the hitch is in a good condition
✅ Look out for any rust or cracks
✅ Pay attention to all the nuts and bolts and tighten any that loose
✅ Give the hitch and towbar a good clean and make sure the friction pads are clean. If they’re damaged or too dirty, replace them so they work as intended while travelling.
✅ Carryout a lift test to ensure the trailer or caravan is connected. Tow ball and connections
Check that:
• the trailer is correctly coupled to the towball or pin - follow the manufacturer’s advice
• the coupling height is correct
• the 7 or 13 core cable and plug is not damaged

Use a breakaway cable or secondary coupling. This engages the trailer’s brakes (if fitted) or stops the trailer if it becomes detached from the car.
Whether you’re new to towing or experienced, hitch up with a towing trainer to get the skills you need to stay safe while towing: https://www.gov.uk/towing-with-car
