MG SA Saloon Restoration AMO 603

MG SA Saloon Restoration AMO 603 This page follows the restoration of my 1937 MG SA Saloon - an ex factory press car which also appears on the front cover of the Oct 38 SA Brochure.

I bought the car in 2010 and made some progress but restoration stalled in 2019

First trial fit of the windscreen scuttle & side panels. Very difficult to get the scuttle / bulkhead / radiator grill at the right angles so that the bonnet lines and gaps are right. Plenty to do getting this right before we can move on.

New marine ply inner sills made / treated and then used as bucks to make the metal outer sill that goes over them. Quite complicated to get them right as the fit at the bulkhead ash frame must be nice and snug. All treated appropriately and etch primed.

The bulkhead is back from being powder coated (excellent job by Mid Cornwall Powder Coating in Bodmin) and is now fitted back onto the chassis. Trial fit of the bulkhead wood (new rubber seal cut to shape) and also the bonnet tops. New marine ply side sills trial fitted too. Just some alterations to be made to the new inner bulkhead wood using old as patterns. Very pleased with progress over the weekend.

Front & Rear wings and running boards are back from sandblasting. As expected there are minor repairs needed on all of them. Now sprayed in etch primer filler to protect them while we concentrate on the main body woodwork. Excellent work by Dave at Totally Blasted in Liskeard - great communication and fair prices - really takes care of your items. Highly recommended πŸ‘πŸ»

As you can see the front seats were very original and still fitted with the air inflated lumbar adjustment !
All material has been removed (and kept for future ref at trimming stage) but due to woodworm new complete wooden seats & bases were made by my very talented local restorer Robert Runnals.
