Government Updates Testing Rules for Zero-Emission Vans – Good News for Fleet Operators.

The UK Government has introduced important changes to the testing requirements for heavier zero-emission vans, helping to reduce unnecessary administration and making it easier for businesses to transition to electric fleets.

From 1 June 2026, zero-emission vans weighing between 3.5 and 4.25 tonnes will move from the heavy vehicle testing regime to the Class 7 MOT system. Even better, their first MOT will now be due after three years, rather than after just one year. This brings the rules more in line with equivalent diesel vans and reduces downtime and operating costs for fleet operators.

MK Fleet Maintenance Director Chris Margetts recently welcomed his daughter, Evie, into the office for work experience placement.

As a family-run business, it was a proud moment for Chris and Sara to see the next generation gaining a real insight into the hard work, teamwork, and dedication that drive MK Fleet Maintenance forward every day.

Reflecting on the experience, Chris said: “Proud doesn’t even come close.”

Creating opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and gain hands-on experience is incredibly important to us as a business — especially in light of the latest Milburn Review findings — and we couldn’t be prouder of the way Evie has approached the week.

It’s fantastic to see the next generation getting involved and developing valuable skills for the future.
