Who’s going to Gravity this weekend at the Birmingham NEC..?

If your attending the Gravity show this weekend then pop along to the ASNU stand and say hello.

We’ve been in today setting up with our favourite injector testing company and the show is taking shape.

Looking forward to 10am tomorrow 😎

Green Machine 💚

Mike's had his fair share of performance cars and whilst he loves his Octavia VRS, it just didnt have enough oomph!

They are so linear and dependable out of the box it doesnt really excite you. It actually almost bores you with how predictable they can be.

Now, we know this car as we've done some work on it already including a diag a few months ago. Mike then patiently waited the few months it took to secure a dyno slot with us.

In that time he fitted up an R600 intake so he (and always us) was keen to see it it had an effect on the performance. The gains can be seen on the 2 bottom traces, and the effect of the additional breathing it allows at high RPM. Quite cool to see, but even better to know that on the day we tuned the car, it was nearly 20 degrees warmer than when we first ran it. If the intake was fitted for back to back runs in the same conditions then the gains would most likely be even bigger.

On to the tuning...
These cars have the IS20 turbo'd engine that is shared with the Mk7 GTI, so with tuning should do between 310-320bhp at Stage 1 level. This one stormed that with good repeatable results. Nice controlled boost, avoiding surge and a lovely smooth ramp up of ignition timing is all it takes. The road test went just as well and just like that the car is transformed into the Green Machine it should have always been!

Like everyone who has had their car tuned recently in the high temps, Mike (and always us 🤣) is keen to see the actual effects of intake temperature during the colder months, so we might just be doing that too. Stay tuned 😉😉

It only came in for...

We love Andrew's Mk7 GTI. Its an awesome example of the marque and we are chuffed that we will be looking after it. We looked after his previous Mk5 GTI too so we know him - he knows us 👌

It was only planned to come in for a look over and to remove the clutch to start function. A simple but very worthwhile mod for manual cars.

You simply couldnt make it up but the day before the slot, his water pump blew rather spectacularly leaving coolant everywhere. He was dubious about whether he could get it to us, but he managed none the less.

So the simple health check and clutch to start was all it came in for, but it left with a new genuine water pump too!

And a full bill of health of course. Cracking car this 👌

Just easier 👌

With the cost of parts, the time away from your car, the dissapointment and of course the unknowns, its sometimes just easier to replace.

We arent talking about an alternator here by the way. That would be way easier. We are talking about a complete engine! This cheeky little AW Polo suffered from a cracked piston, not long into Louie's ownership. We genuinely feel for the guy. What a kick.

The cost of pulling it apart, investigating and then building was big. The worst part was that you just never know what you find until you get right in there. It could be great, or it could really push the rebuild cost up.

The choice was made to source a good engine from a decent breaker. It landed, we fitted and it rolled out of the door. Well, after a few biggles but it was small beans in the grand scheme 😉

It may have been a kick, but once you get over the initial dissapointment, it gets easier. You get to enjoy the car, use it and feel the love that you had before.

Sometimes you have to build. Sometimes you have to investigate. Sometimes of course you can just replace it. Its just easier.

Seeing double 👀

Today is the day for the final touches on Mike's 500Bhp Forged Leon Cupra so it can head back home to him.

All whilst in the background, its identical brother from another mother is getting some tuning love too.

Happy Friday everyone!

Wheeeeeee!!

Just look at Kasam's cheesy grin man. Hes a happy chap and its no surprise considering he has just had his K04 AS core Mk5 GTI tuned!

We've known the big lad for a good while having previously built his Anti Surge Core turbo, serviced his injectors and base mapped his ECU so that he could get the car to us.

On this visit we started off with a Vis motorsport balance shaft delete, a VIS high pressure pump, and then fitted up at TTRS fuel pump to boost his low pressure supply. A good health check and smoke leak test later and it was time for tuning.

It went on the dyno and despite the crazy temperatures, did very well. We are confident that this setup has more in the tank on a cooler day which we will get to check very soon.

The test drive went great and Kasam was very happy with the car. So happy that he set off on his 3 hr journey home with a smile on his face. He came back around an hour later to tell us that the car has since picked up a strange deflated balloon kind of noise when on boost. It went like... "wheeeeeeeee" 😂

Fear not though, as it was just a boost pipe that had been prompted to dislodge itself by the now elevated boost levels. Once that was tightened up on the ramp it was back to normal and the big man could make his way home once again.

We love being a part of people's tuning journey, and this one was no different.

Great car, great guy and a great result. Cheers pal

Levelling Up 📏

Porsche 968 update…..

Making my way through the 968 has thrown the next weak point …..Suspension.

Before i got the car everyone banged on about a true drivers car, the 50-50 weight distribution due to the trans axle configuration. Twenty minutes into owning the car i had no idea what all the fuss was about and to be honest it didnt like country roads.

Aesthetically i didn’t like the look of the car with the back end down and the nose a little too high, every-time i walked away and looked back i was never satisfied with the stance

I knew a big part of it would be bringing it up to modern day standards with 2026 parts.

When i had the Cup 1 wheels refurbished i bought a matching manufacturer N rated Michelin PS2’s - these made a difference so i knew the next logical step was the rusty 20+ year old springs and shocks.

KW is one of our go to companies, the V3 needs absolutely no introduction in terms of capability and performance.

✅ Stainless steel housings
✅ Height adjustable
✅ Rebound and compression damping
✅ TUV approved
✅ Nurburgring tested

A set was ordered and sat in stores for a little while collecting dust until a canceled job in the workshop gave me the perfect opportunity to persuade Andrew to take on the job. Lucky for him its the school 6 weeks holidays and my 13 year old son Ben is down at DT helping out with injectors and learning the ropes.

With my parental responsibilities well and truly back heeled, Andrew took Ben under his wing and let him get involved with hammers and air guns.

KW supply a great kit with all the relevant info and hardware in a handy customer pack with a few stickers thrown in for good measure, some for Andrews tool box and some for Bens bedroom door 😎

Suspension fitted and a few tweaks and they have absolutely nailed the hight and achieved exactly what i envisioned. The drive home was a night and day experience from the drive to work in the morning.

We have them set on all the way soft at the moment with a view to turning them up click by click to get that perfect fast road balance.

I can now see what the trans axle cars are all about as its transformed the car massively. Like any petrol head/enthusiasts cars its never over and i will have to get a set of ARB’s and look at doing bushes too and then possibly a track day 😉

Just as important to me the stance of the car is nailed on for a fast road car, my Porsche doesn’t sit in a glass box, its driven and clicks the miles up when it takes my fancy, rain or shine its driven on these terrible roads full of pot holes.

Huge thanks to our friends at KW
Huge thanks to Andrew and Ben
