It’s not all about making money, sometimes just got to do what’s right
This woman here had seized brakes on the kingsway yesterday, she had collected her car from Arnold Clark just a couple miles away at about 12 noon and found her self with smoke billowing out from the rear wheels
I passed with a load already on at about 2pm, police were in attendance and traffic was well backed up, after dropping my load and heading for home I decided to hop along other streets to miss the traffic but came down at the roundabout she was stopped at
I pulled up to them and asked if they wanted it moved onto a side street, they didn’t hesitate in saying yes, so I got the roundabout closed and the car loaded and moved to a safe place where I found out that she actually had an ETA from RAC of 6pm!!
I then just decided to take the car back to Arnold Clark for her, no charge. It was the right thing to do, got her away home, got the police back to there duties and got the kingsway flowing again
Problem I’ve found time after time with the big 3 (RAC, AA, Greenflag) is they’ll take monthly payments from you for years on end and you’ll, hopefully, never need them but when you do you’re left at the side of the road, or in this case the middle of it, for hours on end. Now sometimes they’re brilliant and get to you quick as you like but any time I’ve got involved the customer has had enough. Best thing you can do in these situations is call in the independent firms, look up local recovery firms in the area your stranded in.
You’ll likely have to pay what will feel like a hard hit to the wallet, depending on the job, but that couple hundred pound (for example) is a small drop in the ocean to the thousands you waste over the years on a service you’ll never receive, if you are getting it through insurance just get an invoice and you’ll be reimbursed
RAC were happy to have her sit in a live lane of a main artery through Scotland for at least 6 hours, causing horrendous congestion and taking valuable emergency resources away from Dundee, I think that’s absolutely ridiculous.
But I’m glad I was able to shorten the wait time for everyone involved
