Scottish driving test alert ⚠️

We’re ending our COVID-19 policy to finish driving tests early in Scotland from Monday 14 March.

Following this change, driving tests will only finish early if the driving examiner assesses that the candidate’s driving is so poor it compromises their safety or that of other road users.

This is in line with our policy before the pandemic.

👉The Scottish Government has announced its intention to further lift COVID-19 legal restrictions and requirements from 21 March, subject to the state of the pandemic.

DVSA will continue to work with the Scottish Government on how this will affect driving and theory tests in Scotland

We’ll keep you updated.

Well done Rhys with a nice 1st time pass today at Paisley test centre. 👏👏👏

I am a driving instructor and we get enquiries almost every day with people asking for a lesson and to use our cars for test this week or next week or next month. We also have students who book or have booked tests before they are ready in the hopes that they will be ready in time. I totally get that they are just wanting to pass as quickly as possible but please understand that my car is my business and I can’t take unnecessary risks with it - so I will only hand over my keys for Students to use my car for test when I have assessed them ready for test. So if I feel a student is not ready but they still wants to have a go, then they will have to do it in a different car. If I feel they are not ready, that doesn’t mean they can’t get lucky and pass, it just means that in my professional opinion, they are unlikely to pass and I don’t feel their skills are good enough yet for me to feel confident to hand over my keys.
We have waiting list as long as our arms and we don’t want to or need to keep students longer than necessary.

Just remember we work for ourselves and we offer a service, (driving lessons) most of us have terms and conditions to use our services which students need to agree with before we take them on. Taking on a student to teach them to drive does not guarantee them use of our car/business/livelihood for their test just because they think they are ready or because they just want to have a go.
So when a driving instructor says you are not ready and to move your test date or take it in another car, they are not letting you down. They are being honest with you and not prepared to take an unnecessary risk with their car which is also their means of income.

Often read about how bad some services are at Arnold Clark.
Well I'm on to give some positive feedback from the service I had today at Renault Hillington with a small fault in my new car. I went in around 12.30pm and was shown over to the service department and introduced to Kelly on the service desk who was very polite and helpful with the problem. There was also a mechanic at the desk who heard me explaining to Kelly and asked could he come out and have a look at the car, he then said he would take it into the workshop and check further and just to wait in the waiting room and he would come back to me after having a look. 15 mins later Craig comes back telling me he would need to order the part and would I accompany him to get my car booked in for the repair. Again both Kelly and Craig sorted everything out for me today. Delighted with the way it was all handled and feel credit where credit is due. Thank you, Kelly and Craig.

Makes the job so much more enjoyable when a pupil passes and leaves a great review. Thank you Kirsty.
