05/05/2021

The driver training industry is currently under enourmous pressure due to the huge demand for driving lessons since the easing of the lockdown on 12th April 2021.

As we begin to return to some normality over the coming summer months, there will be large amounts of people wanting to either start learning to drive or restart their training.

As with most driving instructors at this time, we are currently FULLY BOOKED and have a waiting list of new learners eager to get started on their journey to becoming safe drivers. Learning to drive cannot be rushed and we must all stay safe on the roads, therefore it will take some time for current learners to achieve a standard ready to take a driving test and pass. We are working hard to free up some availability as quickly but as safely as possible.

We are also delayed due to a lack of theory and driving test availability. There are a lot of learners who are having to wait until the end of summer for a driving test, who may be ready now but cannot stop taking lessons as they will lose their confidence and possibly ability to drive to the same standard.

Please bear with us as we work through the backlog and get current learners through their driving test.

If you have been in touch about starting your lessons and have been added to our waiting list, please bear with us. We haven't forgotten about you! If you are looking to start your lessons and are planning to get in touch, please be aware that it will be some time before i can get you started.

If you already have a driving test booked at short notice and don't currently have a driving instructor please do not ask us if you can take you to your driving test. We will not take you to a test without assessing your current standard and we do not currently have availability for this at short notice. Please consider postponing your test and providing that test slot for someone who does have an instructor and is fully prepared ready to take a test.

Thank you for understanding and stay safe

Driving Test update.
As you may be aware, driving tests are due to restart again from 22nd April, subject to confirmation from the government on 5th April.
COVID Safety restrictions will still apply with additional safety measures to protect examiners and pupils.
As previously, instructors will not be allowed to accompany tests.
Pupils will be asked to wear a mask throughout the test and to follow additional social distancing rules.
Once parked at the test centre your ADI will provide you with a mobile number which you should use to call the examiner. The introductions and pre test brief will then be carried out via mobile phone.
Once completed the ADI should open the rear left passenger door and move away from the car. The examiner will now join the pupil by sitting in the rear left passenger seat from where they will conduct the test to enhance social distancing.
We have been asked to further improve transmission barriers by creating a temporary screen between the front and rear of the passenger compartment. It was felt that using perspex screens was both expensive and potentially dangerous in the event of an accident so we have been asked to use cling film. This will also reduce the problem of hearing the examiner properly.
Obviously this means that the dual controls will no longer be available for use by the examiner so we ask please that all pupils drive really carefully and maybe a little slower than usual.
On return to the test centre, you will receive your result. Please remember hugging is not currently permissible when you receive a pass result but you may high five the examiner using the cling film safety screen.

Just a quick update on what Boris has had to say..... We as Driving Schools in the past Lockdowns have fallen in the same bracket as Barbers, Hairdressers and Nail technicians which would mean there will be no lessons, tests ect until the 12th April at the earliest. We still have to wait on confirmation from the DVSA and also now its about rates not dates, so please keep following the rules and we will get back to some kind of normallity sooner rather than later. At least now we have hope. Stick to the rules, Stay safe and we will see you all soon.

If people are confused on how to book an emergency test, this is how it works this time.

You can’t book directly through the DVSA, by phone or email, as they know too many people will try to apply that aren’t eligible.

The DVSA are sending an email to all the NHS trusts, councils and emergency services HR departments, this email will then provide the link to apply.

They’ll be a series of questions they’ll have to answer, and then they’ll find out if they can book a test or not.

The DVSA have only started sending these emails 2 days ago, so it might take a while to filter through to all organisations.

So as our area will be ran by a different company the Test Centre Venues may change..
Future theory test centre network
Currently the theory test service in Great Britain is delivered by one company - Pearson Vue. This includes:

the day-to-day management of each of the test centres, such as the computers and the staff
the online booking system
customer service team
From September 2021 the way DVSA delivers theory tests is changing. The changes will not affect the typical candidate experience or the content of the test (but it may look and feel slightly different).

Theory test centres
As part of the new arrangements two companies, Pearson VUE and Reed in Partnership Ltd will provide the day-to-day delivery of theory tests. The delivery will be separated into 3 geographical regions:

Region A - Reed In Partnership Ltd Covering: Scotland, Northern Ireland, North West, North East and Yorkshire and Humber
Region B - Pearson Vue Covering: Wales, West Midlands, South West and South East
Region C - Reed In Partnership Ltd Covering: East Midlands, East of England and London
Because the contract to operate the theory test centres has been awarded to more than one company the location of many theory test centres will change.

As we finalise plans for the future of the theory test, we will keep you updated.
