A much quieter Wednesday evening than of late with 7 racers gathering to race BSCRA F2 at the Oaklands Ring. Sadly missing was Barrie Wildfat Gregory with health issues - all at the club wish you a speedy recovery Barry. Visiting from Leicester Electricity Slot Car Club was Andy Smith with a very quick version of the latest Mack F2.
Fastest lap qualifying was used to see who raced who in the two finals.
In the first final Steve Talbot drove very smoothly to take the win from Dave Warren not far behind. Third was Paul Stokes who was having trouble with one of the front wheels of his car.
In the second final David Beeching drove superbly to fend off visitor Andy and Stephen Rhodes. Duncan Bullock was driving well before a broken lead wire lost him quite a few laps.

A big thank you to Dave B's partner Karen for gifting some organic cucumbers - much appreciated!
Next week it's hard bodied Tiddlers and Libre - should be good.

The Oaklands Park Model Car Club Birmingham Superprix 40th anniversary certainly proved a popular event, with a packed clubroom of sixteen racers taking part. The idea was conceived by our member Matt from M & V Models Our Place who had the idea of racing Scalextric cars from the period. He generously supplied the new cars to race and persuaded Scalextric to gift us some excellent raffle prizes. Simple rules, each driver racing the same cars in the same lanes, most laps wins. James Noake took the win and earned his "Brummie" prize of two cans of beer from Birmingham Brewing Company and a bag of Scratchins, well done James in what was a very close and competitive race. Everyone packed into the corner of the room to watch Dot Pinkerton draw the raffle prize. Third raffle prize went to Mick Metcalfe, second to Barrie Wildfat Gregory and the top prize of a legends triple pack to Duncan Bullock. Thanks to everyone for joining us on this special occasion, in particular, Graham from Bearwood Scalextric Club, Alex, Dean and Oscar from North Staffs Scalextric Racing Club, we hope you enjoyed our fun event and went home smiling 😃

Straight after our 40th anniversary of the Birmingham Super Prix (see separate post) all 16 racers stayed for our scheduled 1/32 sports racing. Lapmaster was used to randomly select who raced who. Anyone who didn't have a car to drive was loaned one ( many thanks Dave Warren)
The first final was won by raffle prize winner Duncan Bullock with David Beeching second not far behind. Third was Dean Byatt visiting from North Staffs Scalextric Racing Club who had purchased an Intro32 from Slot Car Jumble to race at this event - well done Dean! Fourth was the lovely Flo from M & V Models Our Place.
The second final was won by Stephen Rhodes from raffle prize winner Barrie Wildfat Gregory . Third was Alex Krupskaya from NSSRC who had also purchased an Intro32 from Slot Car Jumble for this event. Fourth was Graham Pritchard visiting from Bearwood Scalextric Club - we hope you enjoyed it Graham.
The third final was a close run race won by Steve Talbot from Dave W, Paul Stokes (who will be changing to brushless soon) and Matthew Lukeman.
The fourth final was a very close affair with raffle winner Mick Metcalfe getting it together and almost catching eventual winner James Noake. Third was visiting Oscar Byatt and fourth Doug Pinkerton from Black Country Slot Car Raceway.
Overall results are as per the photo.
Hopefully our visitors from NSSRC will put a saloon shell on their Intro32 cars and come and race on Wednesday 16th September - you'll be most welcome (it'll be an earlier finish next time).
Next week it's BSCRA F2 - a good chance to test your car before the upcoming racing at Corby on Saturday 12th September.

Last call for our Birmingham Superprix race later this evening and the chance to win our top Scalextric raffle prize for free.

The Colin McRae triple pack is something really special, even more so as we have a connection with the late World Rally Champion here at our club.
The race starts 8pm, the winner with most laps takes home a can of "Brummie beer" and a bag of Scratchins!

Two days to go before our Birmingham Superprix and two cars to win in our second raffle prize, the BMW Legends twin pack kindly donated by Scalextric. It's a free raffle and everyone that comes and races will be in the draw. Each driver will have 3 mins on all four lanes hosting a spanking brand new Scalextric car generously supplied by M & V Models Our Place They are cars from the period the original race took place in the 1990's.
Think you can go fast and keep in the slot under pressure? The race starts at 8pm prompt tomorrow.

We're in the process of getting the raffle prizes ready for this Wednesdays special Birmingham Superprix race. The third raffle prize is this superbly presented Metro 6R4 kindly supplied by Scalextric. We have a lot to fit in this week as we also intend to race our usual BSCRA - British Slot Car Racing Association Intro32 cars after the The Birmingham Superprix. Therefore we have decided to open the club from 7pm onwards to give chance for people to try and test the cars we will be racing. In order to keep to time we will start the Superprix promptly at 8pm. Look forward to seeing everyone, regulars, and especially newcomers or visitors this coming Wednesday.

With the temperature dipping to more comfortable levels, 10 keen slot racers brought their well fettled hard bodied race cars for some slightly slower than normal racing at the Oaklands Ring this Wednesday.
First up was Tin Tops, with this round counting towards the Oaklands Cup. Lapmaster randomly chose the finals and in the first James Noake from Black Country Slot Car Raceway kept his car on the track more than Stephen Rhodes to take the win with Barrie Wildfat Gregory taking third place. The second final saw the best race of the night with the lead swapping many times before Paul Stokes had one too many offs letting Duncan Bullock through to take the win with Steve Talbot third. The third final was a battle of the Daves with Dave Warren taking the win from David Beeching followed by Nigel Pedley and wife Emma. The overall positions are as per the photo.
Last week's report didn't state that we were also racing our NSR F1 class tonight and consequently some racers didn't bring this class. We would urge all our racers to check the calendar at the top of our page for the scheduled racing - we don't want anybody missing out on the fun!
With the field reduced to eight, Lapmaster randomly selected the two off finals. First up Steve R took the win from Barrie (who had finally found that Kyosho pit box he'd been looking for), Duncan and Steve T (who'd supplied mini donuts and biscuits to celebrate his upcoming birthday). The second final saw James put in a stunning performance that may be a club record for this class. Dave B was second, Paul third and Dave W fourth with a borrowed car. Forty years ago this coming Bank Holiday Weekend the streets of Birmingham came alive to the sound of the The Birmingham Superprix. To celebrate this historic event we are holding a one off special race on August 26th. We will be racing cars from that period kindly supplied by M & V Models Our Place. We will also be raffling off some fantastic prizes donated by Scalextric, these are cars from the era when they roared around the streets of Birmingham. It will be a simple race, 3mins on each of the four lanes featuring different cars. The winner will receive a bag of scratchins and a can of Brummie beer. Sure to be another great night, come and join us for some proper Brummie fun!

The fast wide bodied 1/24th cars always create chaos, incidents and fun 😂 Last nights racing was no different. With usual race controller Stephen Rhodes feeling unwell (get well soon Steve) we took it in turns to press the start button with Flo keen to take her turn keeping everyone on track. After a delayed start, David Beeching who had only put together his car at the last moment, raced into an overall unassailable lead, with over 150 laps on the board. Barrie Wildfat Gregory stormed into second place, even a pit stop to change gears unable to stop his very fast pace. Steve Talbot took a well deserved third place by being fast and quick without hardly, if at all, coming out of the slot. Paul Stokes and Dave Warren had a ding d**g of a battle with the ever improving Paul beating Dave by just a quarter of a lap. Matthew Lukeman and daughter Flo are both gaining experience, changing controllers to get the best results and both getting faster as the night went on. It was great to see Doug Pinkerton again, who once again is also improving on the Oaklands track and joining in with the Oaklands banter that makes the racing such good fun. Now I did mention at the start that 1/24th racing leads to a lot of incidents and unfortunately it was Duncan Bullock turn to suffer last night. In practice he tested his new car, and it flew around the track, but, come race time it was a different story. First off was a delayed technical hitch at the start of the race, then (no names mentioned 😂) other drivers decided to shall we say help him off the track. Last but not least his car started stuttering, so, a few pit stops were needed to make it the finish. Not Duncans best night through no fault of his own, (he did set an incredibly fast lap time though !) but we all know next time will be a different story 😉
Next week it's rubber tyres on our saloons (Tin Tops), this one counting towards the Oaklands Championship.
You will have no doubt seen our The Birmingham Superprix race penciled in for August 26th. We now have the new race cars, courtesy of M & V Models Our Place and very special raffle prizes courtesy of Scalextric , watch this space in the coming days, we have some great prizes, do join us for this one, it will be a very special evening 👍
