*****XJ40@40 Germany UPDATE*****

Hi everyone, I hope you are well. This is an update for everyone who is taking part in XJ40 at 40 Part 2: Germany in September.

I am happy to report that the hotel is now FULLY BOOKED! We currently have 51 rooms and 46 cars booked which keeps us within the German rules for car gatherings.

Everyone who is coming should have had an e-mail from me which includes the food offerings for the Friday and Saturday evening. The Friday is a buffet, but for the Saturday, I need to know what dishes you would like so I can inform the hotel, and they can buy in the food fresh.

There is also the payment request for the Saturday lunches at the Castle and the beverages at the British Car museum. Most people have made their food selections, and their lunch payments, but for those who have still so send theirs over, please do so ASAP as I need to pay the suppliers. Danny & Bob, I will see you when you arrive.

I have also sent over the names and the contact details for all guests who have booked to stay at the hotel to the hotel reception. As you all know, the hotel was book now, pay on arrival, but please note, for any guests who do not show up for their booking, the hotel will require payment and they now have everyone’s contact details to pursue payment. I cannot pay the hotel for people who do not arrive, for obvious reasons. If any guests find that they cannot make it to the event, please contact me ASAP and we can take advantage of the free cancellation policy, and we can allow the room to be offered to someone who would like to go.

We still have a small number of Germany rally plates available for attendees who would like one. The available numbers are – 16, 31, 34, 35 and 36. Please contact me with the number you would like.

Hi everyone,

Today’s post is about an event from last weekend, where I attended the 70th annual Rempstone Steam & Country Festival. This is a great event which centres on old steam engines, agricultural and logistical vehicles from the earliest of technology, right up to modern examples. An element of it is also for cars. Thanks to the JDHT, we took along the Silverstone Fire Tender XJ40, car 500177, which is the oldest surviving XJ40 in the world that we know of, but also the Jaguar XKR villain car from James Bond: Die Another Day. There was another XJ40 there, owned by Dawn Cragg MBE, it was great to see Dawn again after many years since we met at the Corsica presentation.

It was my first time driving an X100 Supercharged car, it was fantastic, and you notice that people keep away from you on the road when driving this car – I think the machine gun and rocket launchers are part of the reason why!

In addition to displaying at the event, it was a good opportunity to take the cars into the presentation ring and tell the show attendees about the 40th anniversary of the XJ40, but to also promote the XKR as an example of special Jaguar’s which the company have constructed over the years, and the interesting lives they have led. And on the final day, we took the cars to see Howard and Ann Hunt, which no doubt the neighbours were surprised to see not just an old Fire Car, but a very noticeable green convertible with a prominent weapons system.

***I should note that when diving the car on the roads, the machine gun was covered up – for obvious reasons. We did have the Police come to have a look at the car, and they loved it, noting that they preferred it to their standard issue Police Peugeot Estate***.

Thank you to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (JDHT) and JLR for letting us promote and bring more awareness to these cars, and to all the exhibitors and guests of the Rempstone Steam & Country Festival for making us so welcome!

We were joined by Sir John Egan, Ken McConomy of JLR, Chrissy Hughes and team from JLR Classic, Neil Campbell and team from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (JDHT), Howard and Ann Hunt, Scott Shearman, Coventry MotoFest and Concours Judges, and lots of proud XJ40 owners and enthusiasts.

It was a great night where we all came together to celebrate XJ40, Jaguar, the city of Coventry and all the interests we share as car enthusiasts and friends.
