⚙️Timing Belt Replacement

• General Interval: Most manufacturers recommend replacement every 60,000 to 100,000 miles (96,000 to 160,000 kilometers) or every 5 to 7 years, whichever comes first.

• Key Notes:

◦ Intervals vary by make and model – some performance or older vehicles may require replacement as early as 40,000 miles.

•Mid-size petrol/vary by make and model – some performance or older vehicles may require replacement as early as 40,000 miles.

◦ A failed timing belt can cause catastrophic engine damage (bent valves, piston damage) in interference engines, so adhering to the schedule is critical.

◦ It is typically recommended to replace related components (water pump, tensioners, idlers) at the same time to avoid future labor costs.

⚙️Timing Chain Replacement
Timing chains are metal and run in oil; they are generally designed to last the life of the engine and do not have a standard replacement interval in the same way belts do.
• However, service guidance or field experience indicates:
• Many chains are expected to last 120,000–150,000 miles or more
• Replacement is usually only recommended if there are rumble/knock noises, slack, poor oil pressure, or diagnostic fault codes

◦ Poor maintenance (infrequent oil changes, using incorrect oil grade) can accelerate chain wear, leading to premature failure.
