Davida Helmets

Davida Helmets DAViDA a privately owned English brand established in 1975. You can rely on us to always try to look after you our valued customers.

Riding motorcycles and providing quality products we use ourselves is and always will be our mission. At Davida we have been defining quality in our own way for more than thirty years. It has been a genuine and relentless pursuit rewarded by a worldwide reputation for the quietest, most comfortable, and well made helmets available. The results are some true classics, ( a must for any long distance

ride) aesthetically very pleasing, beautifully put together and highly effective in their primary function of protection. Our philosophy at Davida stems from years of riding bikes. We have always understood, from experience, the importance of good kit when you're on the road. Whether being bold in the city or staying comfortable on challenging rides, certain things should not be compromised. That is why our helmets have always used the highest quality leather linings and why we have invested so much time developing designs that ensure a good fit. Modelled around the size and shape of the head, the overall size of the helmet is proportional to your head size- a smaller shell for smaller heads and visa versa. These helmets have always looked "right". yes, they are evocative of the past, but they are fresh as well. When it comes to the crucial function of a helmet safety, Davida have satisfied many of the Worlds strictest standards, achieving ECE-R2205 certification, ACU Gold in the UK as well as certifications for the USA, Scandinavia and Japan. Based on the Wirral, England, Davida are now the sole UK manufacturers of motorcycle helmets. We are proud that, unlike most modern creations, these helmets are still hand-built using the best quality materials available. Every distinctive livery and detail is carefully created by individuals who still care about these things. We have also selected a collection of the best goggles available from around the world, all of which have been road tested by us to ensure that they fit well and work effectively with our helmets. Times have changed and the company is constantly evolving yet our helmets seem to look right whatever the decade.

Three studs or five?

Fitting studs to a v4 used to mean an email and a conversation. Now you can pick them on the site using the customiser: three for a peak or five for a visor. These are fitted by hand, so allow us a few extra days.

Before helmets we made swinging arms. This is 1980, one of ours on a Kawasaki GPZ750, look at the box section and the eccentric adjuster. The big Japanese bikes of the day GS Suzukis, Hondas, Kawasakis, the Hailwood Ducati had a speed wobble at 120mph, bucking broncos, I do wonder if they were more dangerous than choppers. So we built the arms and mono shock conversions for all of them in the workshop on the Wirral, 15 minutes on a revolving welding fixture, powder coated, anodised, £100. Not a single one ever came back out of alignment.

The Japanese sorted their own frames by the mid 80s and we went and made lids. Same idea though, fix the thing the big boys had not fixed yet.

We made these for the Stones Exhibitionism show at the Saatchi Gallery in 2016, our Jet helmet with the iconic tongue and the Exhibitionism colours, every one masked and painted by hand in Birkenhead. £400 in the gallery shop, god knows what they go for now. If you have one guard it.

Worn in, worn out.

One of the rare few to come lined in leather. Standard now ships with our airflow fabric and for the purists, the leather liner is available once again. It takes a few rides to wear in, then lasts a lifetime.

One workshop. One idea. (Don’t tell Honda.)

Fid finishes his engineering apprenticeship and sets up a workshop on the Wirral. The first product is a vacuum gauge for balancing carburettors, made because nothing good enough existed. Honda UK becomes a customer, and Davida produces tuning equipment here right up to 1980. They never know that 'Unit 2' is his mother's garage at 385 Leasowe.

“I never actually told them that Unit 2 was my mother’s garage and we always smiled about that.”
