StarterMotor Fueling young careers in the world of historic and classic cars with hands-on access to vehicles, events, and educational opportunities.

The collective historic vehicle sector has experienced rapid growth in recent years: it is now thought to be worth over £5bn annually to the UK’s economy, and it employs some 34,900 people. However, whilst expanding, it is also ageing, resulting in a younger generation missing out on both the valuable skills required and also historic vehicle ownership, particularly as costs of ownership can be outside the reach of many young enthusiasts. 1,000 new engineers are estimated to be required over the next 5 years just to stem this erosion. The net result is a real possibility of valuable skills being lost, to the detriment of the industry, economy, employment and historic car enthusiasts. There is a clear need to engage a younger generation, with the aim of encouraging them to take up careers in the historic vehicle industry and to enjoy historic vehicles.

Another insightful and enjoyable Historic and Classic Vehicles Alliance Heritage Matters Trade Insights Day, hosted at the unique Great Northern Classics facility in Derby.

Heritage Matters gatherings provide a valuable opportunity to network with the best and the brightest from the classic and historic vehicle industry.

We met some new connections and learned more about how some of the challenges facing the sector are being tackled.

A huge thank you to Dale, Shân at the HCVA, and to everyone else that made the day so worthwhile.

We’re proud to support the HCVA as a member of the Education & Skills Pillar, one of the strategic work groups tasked with providing advice, guidance and feedback to the HCVA executive leadership on all aspects related to the education and skills needs required to support the future health, appeal and prosperity of the sector.

Until next time!

We put young enthusiasts centre stage at this month’s Bicester Scramble by teaming up with the MX-5 Owners Club to bring an awesome line-up of cars to our stand.

Eight cars. Seven owned by club members, the majority under 30, and one generously lent by Mission Motorsport.

Our stand, along with the cars on display, even got a mention on the latest Smith and Sniff podcast episode… did you catch it?

At the heart of it all was GenMX, the Club’s young members’ division, showcasing how they are getting more young people behind the wheel of the classic and enthusiast car sector.

An accessible modern classic. A passionate community. Like-minded people sharing their enthusiasm, getting hands-on and keeping the love of cars alive.

A huge thanks to everyone involved for making it happen. We loved sharing the stand with the Club and look forward to the next time! ⚡

Today, the Motor Racing Legends Generations Trophy returns to Silverstone. 🏁

At the event last year, Ambassador Evie made her racing debut alongside her grandad, while the amazing Club 68 team helped support two young enthusiasts with work experience placements across the event.

Historic motorsport is more than just racing. It’s a vibrant community full of sporting competition and opportunities to meet like-minded people. It’s a perfect place to inspire and introduce young people to careers and experiences they may never have known existed.

This year, Evie is back on track, this time competing alongside her dad. We wish her, and everyone taking part, the very best of luck for the day ahead! 🍀

We’re finalists in the International Historic Motoring Awards!

StarterMotor has been shortlisted for Youth Initiative of the Year and we couldn’t be prouder.

To have our work recognised alongside some of the leading names in the international historic motoring world is a huge honour. We’re passionate about inspiring the next generation, helping young people who have ‘the spark’ and opening doors to careers in this brilliant industry. It’s fantastic to see our work recognised.

And when you’re a full-time team of just two, with StarterMotor operating in its current form for a little over two years, recognition like this means a lot. We’re already celebrating being named finalists – but who knows what might happen on the night!

A massive thank you to our Ambassadors, sponsors, supporters and industry partners. Your belief in what we’re doing is helping us make a real difference.

With the Awards ceremony coinciding with the NEC Classic Motor Show, where we’re delighted to be the Charity Partner, it’s shaping up to be a very special, and very busy, weekend!

07/10/2026

Meet Dexter, a StarterMotor Ambassador and someone who well and truly has the ‘spark’ - a genuine passion for cars and the world that surrounds them.

Dexter’s been supporting the Charity for a few years now and we’ve been able to help connect him with experience and opportunities to help him find his place within the classic and historic vehicle industry.

His enthusiasm and dedication to the sector is assuring and we’re proud to see him succeed in the sector and throughout his studies. He’ll be with us during the this Novemeber, an event we’re proud to be the Official Charity Partner for.

So, if you have, or know someone who’s got the ‘spark’, come and say hello or reach out to see how we can help.

Yesterday was special.

Ambassadors judging their own StarterMotor Golden Ticket Concours. Young enthusiasts from Gen-MX, the young members’ division of the MX-5 Owners Club, joining us on our stand. And many, many, many conversations about the future of the automotive sector and how we’re inspiring the next generation to pursue careers within the industry.

Days like yesterday are special, and remind us why we do what we do…

These are just the first batch of photos from the day, beautifully captured by Jess 📸. Thank you, Jess 🙌

Trust us, there’s plenty more to come…

This is not a drill... IT’S ALMOST SCRAMBLE!

We’re looking forward to welcoming young members of the MX-5 Owners Club to our display, alongside the 60 hand-selected cars that will take pride of place on our Golden Ticket Concours Lawn.

If you’re one of the lucky entrants who received a Golden Ticket hanger in the post, please remember that you’ll still need your valid event entry ticket to gain access to the Scramble. Your hanger is not your entry ticket.

There’ll be plenty happening throughout the day, so be sure to stop by, say hello to us and our team of young Ambassadors, and find out how we’re helping to inspire the next generation of careers in the classic and historic motoring industry.

It’s a special day today...

The 19th of September marks International Morgan Day. For 117 years, Morgan has been producing some of Britain’s most iconic sports cars with its craftsmanship continuing to honour the principles established in 1909, creating a legacy that remains unmatched.

Today, we celebrate this iconic British marque and its pioneering contribution to the automotive industry, as well as the passion and community that surround it.

We’re also incredibly grateful to the The Morgan Sports Car Club, whose enthusiasm and support we value enormously. Our Ambassadors have benefitted from many opportunities through the Club, creating experiences, connections, and memories that exemplify their love for the inudstry.

An MX-5 Owners Club takeover at Scramble 😎🏁

On 4 October, our StarterMotor stand at the Bicester Motion Scramble (located by Gate 1) will host a hand-picked line-up of iconic Mazda MX-5s, brought together in partnership with the MX-5 Owners Club.

And this isn’t just a display of great cars.

Many of the MX-5s will be owned by under-30s from GenMX, the Club’s young members’ section.

At StarterMotor, that’s exactly what we want to see. Young people not just admiring automotive heritage, but owning it, enjoying it and becoming part of the community that will carry it forward.

There’ll also be a special MX-5 provided by Mazda_UK… but you’ll have to wait until the day to discover what it is. No spoilers! 👀

With our Golden Ticket Concours taking place alongside it, 4 October is shaping up to be a very special day for those who care about the future of the classic automotive community.

We’ll see you there! 🏁
