Few broken coil springs this week, first from a berlingo van, picked up during a service on Monday, the broken end was found wedged in the subframe.
The second and third from a Range Rover, this spring had snapped pretty much at the middle of the coil causing it to collapse and chew up the top mount bearing.

Now… why do I charge for this, just to return it once the repairs done? (Yes people do ask)

I charge for the initial call out because to visit your vehicle can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes out of my workday as well as fuel and unfortunately there are people who would have me come out to tell them what’s wrong with their car with no intention of having the repairs completed.

Suspension top-mount failure.

It sounds worse than it was, but this car was investigated for a knocking noise while driving. It was quickly apparent that the top mount had probably failed and was causing the noise.
A routine job usually, however today’s offering was a little more challenging as one of the captive nuts broke away from the mount meaning that it couldn’t be removed simply. instead, the bolt had to be carefully cut away until it was small enough to pass through the mounting hole.
Once that was done the rest of the replacement went smoothly.
Notice the damage in the centre of the mount. The metal piece to the side is supposed to be bonded to the rubber and attached to the rest of the metal still inside.
New mount installed snd put back together and the noise was gone. 👌

I went out to this one a few days ago to investigate a brake wear warning light that had come up on the dash.
Initial inspection found that all the brake pads were good so the wear sensors were checked for damage and this is what was discovered.
The metal bracket that retains the connector had built up with corrosion and broken the plastic housing apart on the vehicle side of the wire.
I did a temporary fix initially just to turn the annoying light off while a new connector was sourced.
Today I returned to wire in the new connector and repair the corroded bracket.
Another happy customer.

Another set of track rods today, inner and outer.
The tracking was visibly out on this polo, but it was unable to be tracked as the ends were completely seized on and there was play in the inner joints.
The grinder made quick work of removing the ends ready to install the new parts.
The wheels were then straightened as best as possible by eye (better than they were to start) ready to go for full laser alignment.

Inner steering arm on a Fiat 500 this week, no wonder the steering was wandering. Both sides were the same condition from dirt and water ingress as well as a worn out lower arm ball joint and missing exhaust clamp causing it to blow.
