Hi, my name is Harry Taylor and I'm the owner of Cherryvalley Cars & Classics. A passion going back 50 years. I buy and sell Classic Cars and low mileage daily drivers. I've been interested in cars since I was around 12 years of age and by age 14 or 15 I was repairing cars for

family and friends, I was stock car racing and I was working part time in a friends dads garage. A long career in the car industry began in 1974 when I started working full time as an apprentice car mechanic, the same year that I bought an Ex Works Mini Cooper S rally car with delusions of becoming the next Paddy Hopkirk!! Along with my good friend, in 1981 at the age of 24 I started my own car repair & sales business in Belfast, and in 1992 we moved to a two acre site in Newtownards. Having acquired my own small collection of classics, I was still being offered many other cars from various sources, and as the old adage says "You Can't Keep Them All", Cherryvalley Cars & Classics was born!

🔥Another blast from the past 😃 Volvo 440GL with our sticker still in place on the rear window!

The car has been in storage for around 25 years, but it won't be ending up for sale at Cherryvalley. 😔

The new owner is keeping it, but it was nice of him to send me some photos. 👏

🔥SOLD🔥Superb 1994 Mini Sprite 1275cc MOT’d May 2027, 66478 miles - SOLD

Surely there can’t be a classic car that brings a bigger smile and more fun than a Mini?

A cracking car that looks fantastic and drives as good as it looks.

The exterior presents very well, with bright paintwork and chrome, and smart wheels and tyres.

The interior is in very good order, with the seats, carpets, door cards and dashboard all looking great.

The engine bay, boot and underside are also well maintained, reflecting the overall care and attention this car has received.

Currently in Northern Ireland, she comes with a standard UK V5, so can be driven anywhere in the UK with no need for reregistration or import duties. Her long term ownership in N.I. also makes it suitable for low cost export to ROI.

On the road, she drives very well, the engine is quiet and pulls strongly, the gearbox operates smoothly and precisely, and the brakes are excellent.

The classic Mini was introduced in 1959 by the British Motor Corporation, designed by Sir Alec Issigonis as an affordable, compact city car.

Its revolutionary front wheel drive layout and transverse engine provided remarkable space for such a small car. Loved for its character, go kart handling and motorsport success, including Monte Carlo Rally victories, the Mini became a true British icon.

Production continued with BMC and later Rover until 2000, with over 40 years of popularity.

🔥ON THIS DAY🔥 11th August 1975 – The UK government acquired 78% of the equity in British Leyland Ltd, effectively nationalising the company, following years of financial trouble and industrial unrest.

The nationalisation of BL in 1975 was the result of a long decline rather than a sudden failure. It was once one of the world's largest car manufacturers, but by the mid 1970s it was in serious trouble.

When BL was created in 1968, it brought together many famous British marques including Morris, Austin, MG, Rover, Triumph and Jaguar. The idea was to create a British rival to giants such as General Motiors and Ford.

Too many overlapping models with Austin, Morris, Triumph and Rover often competed against each other instead of working together. This combined with under investment, poor industrial relations, quality problems, strong foreign competition and the oil crisis of 1973 left BL on the verge of failure.

The government rescue kept British Leyland alive, but it came at a cost.
Thousands of jobs were lost as the company was restructured, factories closed and the famous marques were gradually reduced.

Despite its troubles, BL still produced some of the UK's most memorable cars, including the Mini, Range Rover, MGB and Triumph sports cars. Many of these cars have gone on to become the classics we know, love and still enjoy driving today.
