Difference between an MOT & Service

MOT
A legal requirement (in the UK) once your car is 3 years old
Checks whether the car is safe and road-legal
Covers things like brakes, lights, tyres, emissions, steering, seatbelts
Pass or fail
Valid for 12 months
Think of it as: “Is this car allowed on the road?”

Service
Not a legal requirement, but strongly recommended
Focuses on maintenance and longevity
Includes things like oil and filter changes, fluid top-ups, spark plugs, inspections
Usually minor / interim / full / major levels
Helps prevent breakdowns and expensive repairs later
Think of it as: “Is this car being looked after properly?”

Today for the first time in 5 years of being a garage we were told "that seems expensive"...

I ALWAYS check prices via Click Mechanic as this shows other garages/mechanics (30 to be exact) within the area and gives us an idea on cost to make sure we are well in line.

I know these prices are probably slight raised due to fees ect associated with websites such as that but still we came in at £222.60 CHEAPER.

Every garage has overheads, rent, rates, electric, water, wages, insurances (employers, trade and liability) and more, all these costs are huge to every garage, so I apologise if coming in cheaper still seems expensive sadly we are all in the same boat of rising cost, parts costs rising, unfortunately these are things completely out of our control.

The wasp is no more…..it’s off to the scrapyard after years of loyal service to both me and Alex!
It’s taken us to awards evenings, concerts, holidays, family celebrations, collected hay and feed and travelled up and down to Edinburgh so we could visit Marley everyday when he was in hospital.
I know people will say it’s just a piece of metal, but the memories and laughs, tied to that little yellow peril make it a special little car.
As always, a huge thank you to our garage Perks Automotive Ltd for organising collection, providing a courtesy car over Christmas and New Year and then finding a replacement car so quickly, meaning Alex never had to worry about getting to and from work.

✨️WET BELT ENGINES POST✨️

We have carried out A LOT of these wet belt replacements, some people still dont realise the importance of maintenance of these engines, here's some things to look out for and keep in mind 😊

If you car feels a bit sluggish or slow to respond theres a mechanical reason for that hesitation..
If your wet belt has started to brake down, small bits of rubber end up circulating in your oil, this can partially or fully in some cases block up thr pick up which results in the engine not getting the right oil flow that it needs to function correctly.

The belts can start to disintegrate as early as 35K (that we have personally seen).

Good oil maintenance is key to these engines 💪
