Basingstoke MOT & TYRE - Lennox Road

Basingstoke MOT & TYRE - Lennox Road Excellent prices on MOT's, car servicing, tyres, car repairs and many more quality garage services.

We first opened with our site at Essex Road which has been trading now for over 20 years. In 1997 a major investment was made on modern equipment, staff training and computerisation to keep up with modern day cars and the name changed to Basingstoke Autocentre. Popularity resulted following many developments and increased to such a size that a new site was sought in 2002. This resulted in the open

ing of our Lennox Road MOT & Tyre Centre, after further success we were pleased to open our third site, Wade Road MOT & Tyre Centre. In April 2011 we opened our fourth site, Basingstoke Value Tyres, in response to growing customer requests for budget tyres due to the recession. In Spring 2012, we opened a new Value Tyres Centre in Farnborough, followed by another Value Tyre Centre in Thatcham early 2015.

How often should you check your tyre pressure? 🛞

It's recommended that you check your tyre pressure at least once a month and before any long journey. Tyres naturally lose pressure over time, and driving with incorrect tyre pressures can affect handling, increase fuel consumption, and cause uneven tyre wear.

The good news is that checking your tyre pressure only takes a few minutes and can help keep you safer on the road while extending the life of your tyres. If you're concerned about the condition of your tyres, don't hesitate to give us a call on 01256 355 855 or visit our website to reserve tyres online 👉 https://www.basingstokemotandtyrecentre.co.uk/tyres

Can you drive your car if the MOT has expired? 🚗❓

The short answer is no—it is illegal to drive a vehicle on the road without a valid MOT certificate. You could face a fine and your insurance may be affected if you're caught driving with an expired MOT.

The main exception is if you're driving your vehicle to a pre-booked MOT appointment. Even then, the vehicle must still be roadworthy and safe to drive.

The easiest way to avoid any issues is to book your MOT before it's due. If your MOT expiry date is approaching, simply call us on 01256 355 855 or visit our website to easily book online 👉 https://www.basingstokemotandtyrecentre.co.uk/mots

What’s the difference between an MOT and a service? 🤔❓

An MOT and a service are often confused, but they do two very different jobs. An MOT is a legal requirement that checks your vehicle meets the minimum safety and environmental standards to be on the road. It includes inspections of things like brakes, tyres, lights, suspension, and emissions.

A service, on the other hand, is routine maintenance designed to keep your car running smoothly and help prevent future problems. This includes things like oil and filter changes, fluid top-ups, and checking key components for wear and tear.

We offer affordable MOT tests and servicing, which can be booked together for ease. Just give us a call on 01256 355 855 or visit our website to book online 👉 https://www.basingstokemotandtyrecentre.co.uk

FAQ: How do I know if my brakes need replacing?

Your brakes often give warning signs when they’re starting to wear out. Common signs include squeaking or grinding noises, a spongy brake pedal, vibrations when braking, or your car taking longer to stop than usual. You may also notice a warning light appear on your dashboard.

Worn brakes can seriously affect your safety, especially in wet conditions, so it’s important not to ignore the signs. If you’re unsure, pop in for a brake check and let our team make sure everything is working as it should.

Your tyres are crucial for safety, so it’s important to know when it’s time for a new set. The most obvious sign is tread depth. In the UK the legal minimum is 1.6mm, but it’s recommended to replace them before they get that low for better grip, especially in wet conditions.

You should also look out for cracks, bulges, or cuts in the sidewall, as well as uneven wear across the tyre. If your car feels less stable, takes longer to stop, or you’re noticing more vibrations, your tyres could be worn or damaged.

If you’re unsure, just pop in or call us on 01256 355 855 to speak with our team. And if you think your tyres need replacing, you can reserve tyres quickly and easily on our website 👉 https://www.basingstokemotandtyrecentre.co.uk/tyres

How does warmer weather affect your car? ☀️

We all enjoy seeing the sun come out in the warmer seasons, but it can still put your car under pressure. Higher temperatures can cause tyre pressure to increase, which may lead to uneven wear or reduced grip if not checked regularly. Heat can also put extra strain on your battery, engine cooling system, and fluids, increasing the risk of overheating if levels aren’t maintained.

It’s also common for air conditioning systems to struggle if they haven’t been used in a while, and worn tyres or brakes can become more noticeable on longer summer drives.

If you have concerns about any of these issues, let us make sure your car is ready for the warmer months ahead! Just call us on 01256 355 855 or visit our website to find out more about our services 👉 https://www.basingstokemotandtyrecentre.co.uk

FAQ: When should I replace my car battery? 🔋❓

Most car batteries last around 3–5 years, but this can vary depending on how you drive and the conditions your car is used in. If your engine is slow to start, your lights seem dim, or you’re experiencing electrical issues, it could be a sign your battery is nearing the end of its life.

It’s always better to replace a weak battery before it fails completely and leaves you stranded. If you’re unsure, pop in for a quick battery check where we can test its condition and let you know if it’s time for a replacement. You can always call us on 01256 355 855 with any questions or visit our website to find out more 👉 https://www.basingstokemotandtyrecentre.co.uk/battery-check

FAQ: What causes uneven tyre wear? 🛞❓

Uneven tyre wear is a common issue and can often be a sign that something isn’t quite right with your car. The most common causes include incorrect wheel alignment, unbalanced wheels, incorrect tyre pressure, and worn suspension components. Hitting potholes or kerbs can also knock your alignment out, causing tyres to wear more on one side than the other.

If left unchecked, uneven tyre wear can reduce grip, affect handling, and lead to needing new tyres sooner than expected. If you’ve noticed any problems with your tyres or think they may need replacing, don't hesitate to give us a call on 01256 355 855 or visit our website to book online 👉 https://www.basingstokemotandtyrecentre.co.uk/
