🚘 2:1 INSTRUCTOR TRAINING — IS IT WORTH IT?
Many of the big driving schools train two PDIs with one trainer. They argue it’s an effective way to learn, and they’re not wrong!
The police and military also use 2:1 training, and it can be highly effective. But it doesn’t work for everyone or in every situation.
Let’s be honest, it’s also a commercially attractive model. Two people paying for the same training time allows providers to offer packages that look like fantastic value.
But is cheaper always better?
2:1 training can work brilliantly when trainees have similar abilities and development needs. They can learn from each other, observe different approaches and share the cost.
The problem comes when trainees are paired together simply because of location, availability or course structure.
Every PDI has different strengths, weaknesses and learning needs. If one needs significantly more support than the other, can both really get what they need from the session?
🎯 MY APPROACH TO PDI TRAINING
At Matt’s Driving School, my training is primarily delivered on a 1:1 basis, tailored to you as an individual.
Your existing skills, experience, strengths and development needs shape your training — not a one-size-fits-all syllabus or the convenience of a training provider.
Where appropriate, 2:1 sessions can have real benefits, but they should be used because they add value to your learning, not simply because they’re cheaper to deliver.
You’re investing in your future career. Your training should be built around you.
